Vincent, If your old computer has TMG on it, and it shows your registration info, then that info should be valid. Have you verified that you are using TMG v8 on the old computer? If the old computer, has TMG v7, then the registration info there won't unlock TMG v8.08 on the new computer. When you attempt to unlock TMG on the new computer, specify _all_ the information from the license, including your name and email address. Specifically, if your email address has changed since you purchased your TMG v8 license, do not enter the new email address. You have to use the one you supplied when you made the license purchase. I hope this helps. If not, let us know. John
My vesion of TMG is 8.08. I neverupgraded. The registration no and other info is correct according to my old computer installation. My setup: Dell Ispiron 7477 AMD 64 bit Windows10 Home Ed. 8 G memory TMG 8.08 32 bit Ed Any help would beappreciated. BTW, is the forum still active. Vince Castelli

Fred...... I do not have TMG on this iPad, but a list of citations attached to a particular source can be found under reports, list of citations. When that opens, enter the source number, and a list of all citations will appear. George...MADP4018 --George-- > On Jan 19, 2017, at 5:21 PM, W. I have no idea what happened sometime in the past but some of my sources are screwed up and I need to verify what is what. Is there a way to report on where a source is being used? Like a report that lists every source and where that source code is attached? Fred -- Fred Rump, 730 5th St. NW Naples, FL 34120 fredrump@gmail.com 239-775-7838
A list of citations report with the subject set to "All citations" will do this. To see where each source is used you need to look at the several ways that sources can be cited, that is, by linking to a name, a relationship, or an event. By including in the report options output columns that identify not only the source itself but also the ID numbers of the people involved in that citation's linked name, linked relationship, and linked event you should be able to see every use of every source. The Boston-area TMG users group will meet this Saturday Jan 21 at 1 pm in Burlington at our usual location on Commonwealth Executive Drive at the Patriot Energy/Mint Energy building. We start out our meetings with a discussion of what everyone has been working on, and problems or ideas they have. This month I would like to try having a discussion about sources - how everyone defines sources, how you classify them in the Master Source List, are on-line sources different than print (e.g. a print book you view online). I have been working on the Boston Archdiocese project, and will keep people up to date on that endeavor. And also the latest information on GedSite, the new SS-look-alike for people who aren't using TMG. Directions: Turn off 95/128 at exit 32B, Middlesex Tpke, heading towards Boston (away from the Burlington Mall). Immediate left onto Wheeler Road. Then first left (about 1/4 mile) onto Commonwealth Executive Drive. There is only one building, at the end of the road. Go in the front door, upstairs. The meeting will be on the left on the second floor. There is an elevator. If there are any last-minute questions my cell phone is 781-999-2451 We have refreshments Linda Reinfeld

Hi Lindley, The contributors to the project discussed alternative names for HRE for a long while. We have always said that if a good name for the generic application could be found we may adopt it. At the moment the name is of little importance compare with actually getting it developed and distributed to users. We will continue to use HRE to ensure that we are focused on getting the application created. Marketing in this space is less important. The scope, quality and zero cost are our prime goals. This is a community project. "HRE" is a fairly unique, short combination of characters for a search engine - anything else would need to be as effective. HRE is not solely a genealogy application. It is a history research application for all kinds of equivalent research. The alternative name needs to_not to restrict__the concept of use __of its to only one history discipline_. If you ideas for alternative names please send them to me. The general data model of HRE are a collection of *events *each that in *time* that may occur at one or more related*locations*. Thanks to all who are working on HRE - I love TMG just like I loved UFT (ULTIMATE! family tree) and its predecessors and look forward to HRE, but please could somebody consider a better name than the bland HRE? Marketing seems to be a key ingredient in success (e.g. Ancestry/ftm), so perhaps some users with a different set of skills could put their mind to the task of developing a better name and a plan to let the genealogical/historical world know about its features. Perhaps this is already happening and just not been mentioned, but the world is full of excellent projects that never got off the ground for lack of appropriate publicity. The publicity has to be ready to go when the program is ready, and depending on progress, 'teasers' could be put out in various blogs, etc. I have no skills to offer, but hope some others on this list may like to think about it. That is, what we want to be available as common services in the core, and which critical features to demonstrate in the first demonstration version. Clearly, this will not include all the import, reporting and export features that TMG has, but will have a range of features to illustrate some chosen feature extensions. It includes TMG v8.5+ importing, but is likely to have a limited range of reporting templates at first. (2) *Documentation*, that is, contribution protocols and standards, testing procedures, user documentation, etc. are being compiled and collated for storage in a GitHub, a repository for all this content including the application code. The GibHub will be public and linked from the HRE website. So together with updates to the HRE website, HRE wiki and the HRE Github, interested persons will be able to see how the development is proceeding. (3) *Core application development*. Advise received from other community-based GPL software projects has identified that the best way to initially proceed in such a project is to create the core application "in-house" using a small cohesive team of developers. Only when that core application is functional, then will it be possible to invite a wider collection of contributions to create simple narrow-focused feature extensions (or for some ambitious contributors, the creation of history type plugins). This team will be 5 - 8 persons. We are in the process of building that core team. Hopefully rarely, if HRE is not able to find volunteers with appropriate skills, available time and commitment, HRE may need to contract out some key areas to external consultants (but the outcome will still be GPL under the terms of such a contract). (4) *Coding Experiments* are current being conducted with software tools for building the User Interface, code development environments (IDEs), code version control (CVS), module testing, database updating procedures with corruption protection and multi-language implementation alternatives. (5) *Timeline:* All this will take time. Estimating the time to that demonstration application depends on too many unknown factors to provide an estimate that would be worth anything at this time. Once we have reached the stage where we can import a TMG project, safely edit that data with consequences (like delete a person), back it up and restore it, then we may be in the position to give a more worthwhile estimate. PDF is a variant of PostScript -- that is, a programming language optimized for rendering text. Now, there are some things that could affect size: Whether the fonts are included within the PDF or are assumed to be native to the computer rendering the file; rendering resolution for embedded images. The Win10 "print to PDF" lists a maximum resolution of 600DPI, whereas the Amyuni module lists 2400DPI. -- bieber.genealogy@earthlink.net Dennis Lee Bieber HTTP://home.earthlink.net/~bieber.genealogy/

Each Even may involve the *participation* in those events by a number different kinds of *associates *as research objects (persons, etc) supported by the recording and evaluation of the *source evidence* to support those connections. *OK - What short names are available that are: * * *are not already subject to copyright * * *do not have associations with other applications * * *do not have commercial limitations on their use* * *describe the broad scope of HRE* **Robin On 11-Jan-17 08:27 PM, Linley Hooper wrote: > Thanks to all who are working on HRE - I love TMG just like I loved > UFT (ULTIMATE! family tree) and its predecessors and look forward to > HRE, but please could somebody consider a better name than the bland HRE? > > Marketing seems to be a key ingredient in success (e.g. Ancestry/ftm), > so perhaps some users with a different set of skills could put their > mind to the task of developing a better name and a plan to let the > genealogical/historical world know about its features. > Perhaps this is already happening and just not been mentioned, but the > world is full of excellent projects that never got off the ground for > lack of appropriate publicity. > The publicity has to be ready to go when the program is ready, and > depending on progress, 'teasers' could be put out in various blogs, etc. > > I have no skills to offer, but hope some others on this list may like > to think about it. > > Linley > > > -----Original Message----- > From: TMG [mailto:tmg-bounces+linleymh=bigpond.net.au@rootsweb.com] On > Behalf Of Patrick M. I don't seem to have received a reply to the following message. Judy Judy Madnick Albany, NY This is a forwarded message From: "Judy Madnick" <tmg12205@gmail.com> To: tmg@rootsweb.com; Dated: 7/1/2016 2:25:28 PM Subject: PDF file size, compression, and quality I noticed today that when I updated journal reports in TMG using the Microsoft Print to PDF (in Windows 10), the file sizes were much smaller than the reports generated in Windows 8.1 when I used "Save to Adobe Reader (PDF)." Am I correct that the Microsoft Print to PDF function compresses the files? If so, am I losing quality? Thanks in advance, Judy Madnick

This is complete mis-information. TMG is not in development in any way. Wholly Genes still own the proprietary rights to TMG and they have indicated that TMG would not be sold. There is development of at least on program that may be a replacement for TMG. This is the History Research Environment (HRE) about which Robin Lamacarft gave us an update a couple days ago. HRE is not TMG nor is it trying to be. They are attempting to include much of what TMG does. But, it won't be TMG and probably won't look like TMG based on what we have been told so far. I foresee that when HRE is eventually revealed, it will be the program that all other genealogical programs will try to emulate -- just like TMG was 25 years ago and, in many ways still is (which is why there continue to be so many TMG users).. There was a recent notification that TMG is in further development by other users. It sounds like it will be awhile but it is in the works. -----Original Message----- From: Ines Mannhardt Sent: Tuesday, January 10, 2017 6:13 PM To: The Master Genealogist Rootsweb Email List Subject: [TMG] Adopted children in TMG Hi All, I have been looking at other programmes, on and off since TMG announced that is won't develop any further. So far I have not found a programme that allows me to add 2 sets of parents to a child, other than TMG. We know my grandmother's birthparents and the parents that adopted her. I have both sets of parents in TMG. Any suggestions please. I wrote last month regarding a problem I had last month, after I had restored a backup, when running file/maintenance/VFI didn't put my exhibits back into my \exhibit\ subfolders. I had to restore a backup again yesterday. (I am making some changes to groups of people and it didn't quite go as planned, but I'd backed up first.) This time, I restored my TMG backup, and had all my exhibits in the main folder. I then restored a separate external backup of my \exhibit subfolders, opened TMG and ran VFI again. TMG found and re-linked all 1,451 exhibits. John, Michael and Terry (apologies if I am missing anyone who helped), I am not sure what happened the first time, but VFI definitely works as designed. Thanks for letting me know it would do that! Regards, Cheryl Freeman
TMG-L members, I know some of you are evaluating other programs to replace TMG, and if so, you'll want to know this: I've been hard at work developing GedSite, my GEDCOM-based web site builder. It's a vital tool for anyone using (or considering) Family Historian, Legacy, or RootsMagic because it brings Second Site-quality web site creation to those programs. Even if you don't plan to publish a site on the web, you'll appreciate GedSite as part of your transition toolset. After you transfer from TMG to another program, use GedSite to create a local (on your PC only) web site. It's a great quality control tool because it shows you everything important (people, relationships, citations, sources, places, and exhibits) in a format that is extremely easy to use. GedSite is especially powerful when paired with Family Historian, Legacy, or RootsMagic because GedSite supports the sentence templates used by those programs. However, if you are consider switching to Family Tree Maker or some other program, you can still create narratives using GedSite. You'll use customizable sentence templates provided by GedSite that use GedSite's own sentence template rules. By the way, the sentence capability in GedSite is second to none, with more features and capabilities than any of the programs listed above. It surpasses TMG's sentence structures, too. You can read about today's release of GedSite 1.2.5 using the following (shortened) URL: https://goo.gl/XQTsDJ If you want to purchase a license for GedSite 1, start the purchase process here: https://goo.gl/hcHNCw If you have any questions about GedSite, Second Site, web hosting, or TMG Utility, please contact me.
