    3. Judy I agree with some of the other respondents that "something" is removing the serial number from the system. However, after using the initial RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR to re-enter your info, there is another step you can take which seems to reduce the occurrence of having to re-enter your name and serial number very regularly (works for me!). After doing that, close TMG, and then: Right click the shortcut to TMG on your desktop Select PROPERTIES in the menu that appears Click the COMPATIBILITY tab to open it Click on: RUN THIS PROGRAM AS AN ADMINISTRATOR Click: APPLY and then OK. Now a little yellow and blue shield will be added to your shortcut icon (Windows 10), and it means that shortcut will now ALWAYS run as an Administrator. Bruce Fairhall On 3/02/2017 12:57 AM, Judy Madnick wrote: Good morning! Everything was working fine until we were out of town for two weeks. When we returned home, I had to enter my serial number using the method previously described (see below). Since then I have had to enter my serial number every time I open TMG. BUT when I click "Close," the "flash screen" appears not only indicating "trial version" but also showing my serial number. When I go to the Help menu once TMG opens, it indicates that I'm using an "expired trial version." IOW, when I click "Close," TMG doesn't close...and the administrator method described below works only for one sitting. The next time I open TMG, I have to go through the same procedure. This is the method I'm using: 1. When asked for the unlock code, do not enter it but instead close TMG. 2. Right-click on the desktop shortcut for TMG, and choose "Run as Administrator"...and enter your administrator password if one is in use for your system: 3. When TMG opens and you are prompted for the unlock code, enter it and the name and e-mail address you used when you purchased the current version of TMG. 4. Close TMG, and then re-open normally. You should not be asked for the unlock code again. This procedure only works after you have been prompted to enter the unlock code, including the very first time you open TMG after installing it on a system. Using it when you have not been prompted for the unlock code does not work. Am I doing something wrong? This method always worked before, and it's a PITA to have to enter my serial number every time I use TMG! Thanks in advance.... 3. I am getting older and I arranged with my doctor to have an official test to see what my memory was like now. I received the result today and it shows it's fairly good when compared to my present age though it's not right at the top! :) I have had to set up a new Second Site.sdf and I am happy that people on this mailing list are able to answer most of my questions. I need two answers * In my present website's Main Page I have included a sentence with the word CAVEAT to enable people to click it and open the CAVEAT, but I need to set it up as an official link http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~manypains/index.htm * I also need to set up other links, for example on the master surname index of the new Second Site.sdf. I want a link to that individual person's page TIA Jim Payne

You probably will find it in the archives I think it was about May 2016. None the less this may help. 3. I wondered about the possibility of Windows updates. My serial number is handy, so I can easily copy and paste. However, I find it odd that my serial number appears in the splash screen but isn't used as it should be. In some ways every tenth time (for you) is stranger than every time (for me)! 3. Good morning! Everything was working fine until we were out of town for two weeks. When we returned home, I had to enter my serial number using the method previously described (see below). Since then I have had to enter my serial number every time I open TMG. There's one difference in what's happening now, as compared to previously: When I attempt to open TMG and immediately receive the "Unlock the Full Version" message, I click "Close" so that I can follow the instructions below. When I go to the Help menu once TMG opens, it indicates that I'm using an "expired trial version." This is the method I'm using: 1. When asked for the unlock code, do not enter it but instead close TMG. 2. Good catch, Donald! I suspect few people use [CM], much less containing sensitive data in them, so this has not been noticed before. I have done some further testing and this bug is both more extensive and yet more restrictive than you observed. First, the Report Option to control the output of sensitivity braces is ignored for [CM] *only* for "unique" endnotes. The control over sensitive [CM] data *does* work for most source output options, such as for non-unique endnotes, for embedded, and for footnotes. As an aside, I am not totally surprised this special source output option is different. TMG also handles split [CD] and [CM] parts very differently when the option is unique endnotes, as mentioned both in HELP and in a couple of other existing bugs concerning them in my list. Second, unfortunately this bug occurs not just for the Journal Report. The Report Option appears to be ignored for sensitive [CM] data in all reports (that I have tested) which can select unique endnotes for source output, such as the Independent Narrative. Thanks again for noticing and reporting this. I will add this bug to my on-line list of outstanding bugs. Michael

    1. [TMG] Sensitivity Braces Don't Work With Citation Memo
    2. Donald Range
    3. I discovered that sensitivity braces do not prevent the output of data in the Citation Memo field in the endnotes of a Journal Report for sources that include the [CM] element in the output template. This is with report option to "Show sensitive data" not checked. In contrast, in the same report text with sensitivity braces in the [CD] field is not output if the source template uses [CD]. I don't see anything in TMG help that says it should work this way, nor do I see anything in the list archives that talks about this. So I thought I would make note of it here as a bug or at least an anomaly that you, Michael Hannah, may wish to include in your online list.

    3. It wouldn't be unusual for a minister to have at least one other "paying" job to keep his family afloat. My grandfather was a minister with a wife and 10 children, but was also a farmer, a college educator, and owned his own newspaper (staffed by his family). There's no way of knowing who provided the information to the census taker, maybe not even a family member, which can account for the various differences between the two enumerations. That the enumerator knew the family(s) is not a given. In fact, the enumerator may only have been well-acquainted with the geographical area (streets and roads) from his travels there, but not acquainted with many of the people there. I was thinking the"minister" and the "asst marshall" in the early messages were the occupations of the family members. But, I see now that one head of household was a gunsmith and the other a farmer. So, assuming the same family, did the farmer move to town to be a gunsmith, or the gunsmith become a farmer? Or were there actually two weirdly duplicate families? I also must assume that "minister" comes from other evidence. Further, and this may be modern thinking, gunsmith and farmer sounds logical, but gunsmith and minister? On the other hand, I have known a number of ministers who were hunters. <g> Lee The TMG archive is found here: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/TMG/ Instructions on how to subscribe to TMG: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Software/TMG.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TMG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

One Census Tag with names >recorded twice as witnesses as shown in the census, and one or two >Citation Tag? Two reports. I record everything, just as I see it. I would also include a 'name variation' when only a first name initial is given. Additional notes in the memos etc. if needed. My reasoning is, if I should discover the information again in the future, I will know it is not new, so needs nothing more than showing a second source, perhaps. With digitized records, it is less apt to happen, but sometimes when working with extractions and transcriptions, one might think they've found something new which could alter conclusions. Who is this Lanford and where is he in the households you note? And which John Martin was the Minister? Lee
