>From where do I use this filter? ,project manager ,any reports? Worth to try ,but the issue is not about merging. Got several of these after importing from Gedcom (Family Edge plus) into TMG 4 in abt 2003. The marriages could be listed as A. Person (Male) [ID#1] B. Person (Male) [ID#1] C. Person (Female) [ID#2] D. Person (Female) [ID#2] They are to the same person ,only one tag is marked as primary ,the others non primary. (it was even worse if I had entered a divorce in family edge plus. Then ,I got lots of divorce tags as well (one primary and some non primary (same ID) ,and also a memo tag with a note saying "location of divorce..."....I have found most of these though). -----Opprinnelig melding----- Fra: TMG [mailto:tmg-bounces+gj_erov7=bbnett.no@rootsweb.com] På vegne av Lee Hoffman/KY Sendt: 25. mars 2017 05:11 Til: The Master Genealogist Rootsweb Email List <tmg@rootsweb.com> Emne: Re: [TMG] primary and non marriage tags on personview... Is it any filter to find such marriages? >Of course I could go through 2000 manually ,but should be some possibility >narrowing it down?.... I think what you have is that you have merged two persons (and possibly two other persons) and the results show two or more Marriage Tags (one Primary) and the Marriage Tags are to the same persons. Something like this: A. Person (Male) [ID#1] B. Person (Male) [ID#21] C. Person (Female) [ID#2] D. Person (Female) [ID#22] Persons A & C are marriage, and Persons B & D are married. Since A & B are actually the same person, and Persons C & D are the same person, you merge Person B into/with person A, and Person D into/with Person C. The result being two remaining merged persons A & C which have two Marriage Tags -- one Primary and the other non-Primary. So what you want is a filter that gives you persons who have at least one Primary Marriage Tag and more than one non-Primary Marriage Tag. The filter would be something like: x Marriage... # of Tags < Is greater than 0 AND Marriage... # of Tags < Is greater than 1 END You will likely get some false positives with this, but it should reduce the result to something manageable. This is a 'people' filter and thus can be used in the List of People (LOP) report, and the Project Manager (PM). With the LOP report, you could also set a Custom Flag using the report's Secondary Output and also use the Flag to filter the PM -- like: [FLAG NAME] =EQUALS Y END This last is not _needed_, it would just simplify the PM filtering later if you do the work in multiple sessions. The Flag could also be used with other filter conditions to create more complex filters if they are needed. >Worth to try ,but the issue is not about merging. If you have a person with multiple marriages to the same person, only one can be Primary. The others would have to be non-Primary because only one Tag of a Tag Type may be Primary for the same Principal(s). The same would also apply to Divorce Tags or even Name, Birth, Death, Burial, Relationship, or any other Tag (except History -- History Tags don't have Principals). As to how these came to be multiple Tags, either there was a merging at some point, or someone added the Marriage Tag multiple times. During a merge of persons, TMG will retain all Tags from both persons even if they are for the exact same event because one Tag may contain something slightly different from the other. Usually this is the Memo, Witnesses, or Citations. Even if the Citations are the same, they may differ in the Citation Detail or Citation Memo. Further, the Surety Values of Citations may differ. These are all things that the user has to determine whether/how they should be retained. Lee
Erik Hov asked: > wonder how to do a filter to find certain primary and non primary > marriage tags for people married several times. > My problem is that on some of the personviews of people ,I have > (several incidents) of the same couple married to each other several times. Hi Erik, You are interested in Marriage *event* tags, so I would use a filtered List of *Events* report. But first I would identify the *people* who have multiple such tags by setting a Flag using a List of *People* report. In the List of People report I would have a filter of: # of Marriage Group tags // > Is greater than // 1 // End This will get all people with multiple marriage tags whether or not they are to the same or different spouses. Set a temporary Flag to Y using the Secondary Output for such people. Now in a List of People report filter for this tag equals Y. That will eliminate all people with only one marriage tag. For the Output Columns I would suggest: Prin1 ID Prin 1 Last, Given Prin1 Primary Marker Tag Type Label Prin 2 ID Prin 2 Last, Given Prin1 Primary Marker I would sort first on Prin1 ID, second on Tag Type Label, third on Prim1 Primary Marker, fourth on Prin 2 ID. This should make it easy to view when there are multiple tags, some Primary and some not, for a given person. Hope this gives you ideas, Michael

Tony, I have found that for some reason, you do not see a copy of your own email when you download from the TMG list. However, you can be sure that your message got to the list by going to the TMG list archives where you will see it there. There is a link to the TMG Archives at the bottom of the list messages. Good morning all, I have several projects on my old Windows Vista laptop, 32 bit, in TMGv7. This computer is about to be retired. I have v7, v8 & v9.05 loaded and operational on that computer, but I never did step my projects up to the newer versions. I currently have TMGv9.05 installed on a new laptop running Windows 10, 64 bit. What would be the smoothest process for getting my v7 projects over to my new unit and running there under v9.05? Can I shift over my layouts, preferences and file directory structures also? Thanks for your guidance! Bruce Murduck
Hi listers The March meeting for the Boston-area TMG group is tomorrow - Sat Mar 18 at 1 pm in Burlington at our usual location on Commonwealth Executive Drive at the Patriot Energy/Mint Energy building. We start out our meetings with a discussion of what everyone has been working on, and problems or ideas they have. This month will be a source month - how everyone defines sources, how you classify them in the Master Source List, are on-line sources different than print (e.g. a print book you view online). Barbara Levergood will talk about TMG sources transferring to RM (Hopefully, if there is not a snowstorm!). And I will speak a bit about transfer for sources to FHistorian. If anyone has experience with Legacy it would be great to hear from them also. Directions: Turn off 95/128 at exit 32B, Middlesex Tpke, heading towards Boston (away from the Burlington Mall). Immediate left onto Wheeler Road. Then first left (about 1/4 mile) onto Commonwealth Executive Drive. There is only one building, at the end of the road. Go in the front door, upstairs. The meeting will be on the left on the second floor. There is an elevator. If there are any last-minute questions my cell phone is 781-999-2451 We have refreshments Linda Reinfeld

Dave, It looks like you have the TMG shortcut pinned to the taskbar, in which case your instructions are correct. I have it on the desktop, not the taskbar, which is what the article describes. I'd not considered that the reader would have it pinned to the taskbar, so maybe I need to add a note for that case. Terry

Right click on the TMG icon and you should see two options: "The Master Genealogist" and "unpin from the taskbar". 2. Of course.....this list would be for both children born out of wedlock and those who are twins etc!. And therefore ,those with only one parent could be that as well?. I doubt I know if these with one parent is illegitimate or not ,but some of them must be ,but it impossible to find out about all of them. At least ,you have one parent so they should be related ,but you can`t know if they were born in marriage or not (at least not for those born in the 1900s when you can`t check it with churchrecords. Some of them can be twin or even triplet ,but that wouldn`t be known either. I think have to go through the ones with both parents to look for twins/triplets among them. Should I erase all those without father and mother in >the excel list ,and keep those who has either father or mother? Having only a single parent entered just means that the other parent is unknown. My project has many children with only one parent shown. Several of these are known to be of illegitimate birth and/or be of multiple births. Of the rest, that information is just unknown and more research is needed. Some younger siblings, who are of later birth to the parent are probably not illegitimate; but even so, more research is needed. As for those for who neither parent is known, it may be that some of these are illegitimate birth and/or of multiple births. Also, some of these may be children raised by a family as foster-, step-, or adopted-children whose surname may be the original surname or that of the family by whom they were raised/adopted. There are many children in my project that were like this. Most, fortunately, have the biological parents as well as the "raising" family known and in most of these situations, the two families were related. Most of the rest have only the "raising" family known although evidence points to there being some relatedness between the children and the "raising" family. But, I also have numerous situations where biological relationships are not known and are thought not to be related at all except through law. I have one great-grand-uncle who adopted a son and the son also adopted a son -- my third (adoptive) cousin. DNA confirms there is no biological relationship for either adoption. My third cousin is still pursuing the search for his birth parents and for those of his adoptive grandfather -who may never be found considering the time (1895), although we have some leads. In the case of the rest of my potential multiple births (to a single parent as well as to both), I am first, trying to confirm the birth date. Many of these are more guess than proven dates and thus will not be extraordinary births. As for illegitimate births, I am not too concerned although I do have some that almost have to be. But, looking at the times (mid-/late-1800s), the parents may not have had a proper paper marriage nor one with a minister/public official; but they were considered as married by those in the wilderness neighborhood and/or the parents of the couple (at least the bride's). Ministers were often hard to find then and local government was many miles away. Of course, as we get into the 1800s and definitely the 1900s, this situation did not apply and we have to look more closely at timing of births. There is one birth in my project that should have been illegitimate. The couple married, but when the girl became pregnant, the father left for parts unknown. The child was named for his maternal grandfather -- including the surname. The girl divorced the husband and later married someone else. In your case, I might put those single parent births aside for the near future. Later, you might come back to them. But, I would not just ignore them.
