Unless you have been careful in the way you unlock TMG, Windows will remove your license key and often leave you with an expired trial version which disables many features. I am guessing this is your case. See Terry Reigel's tips on how to avoid what is often described as "Repeated Requests for Unlock Code": http://tmg.reigelridge.com/new-computer-version.htm#unlock Hope this helps, Michael

    3. Brian, You should not attempt to downgrade to TMG v9.01. You can download the installer for TMG v9.05 via this link: http://www.rootsusers.org/TMG-Installers/TMGv9Gold-tmg905setup.exe You asked if there was some way to fix your TMG data files. We can't answer that without knowing what is wrong with them. You said the files "were given unworking endings." That description does not provide enough technical information for me to answer. However, if some of the TMG data files were damaged as part of the system failure, then you should focus on finding the most recent, intact SQZ file, and restore that. You can then explore whether or not it's possible to repair the TMG data files knowing that you have the SQZ version ready to go if not. John

Assuming this is that [ath in the Put in folder field of Step 2 of the GEDCOM Wizard, what is that path? Normally it will be something like: C:\yourusername\Documents\The Master Genealogist v9\Export\ if you installed TMG using the default installation method. If you customized the installation (many users do) then it could be some other path although the Export folder should be the last part. Check File=>Preferences=>Current Project Options=>Advanced and see what the Exports entry is. It should (by default installation) be like the above unless the installation was customized or the field has been changed. In any case, the drive of the file path should definitely be a hard drive on your computer. Lee

    3. Bruce, You've sort of answered your own question. The 'default' or 'home' person is the person with ID #1, and TMG goes there when you delete the currently displayed person, as it has no idea who you want to be now displayed. If you want that to be you, then use Tools/Renumber People. First renumber person #1 to whatever (probably the next unused number in your project, or use F2 to find a 'missed' number). Second, renumber yourself to be person #1. Done. If I delete a person from the database while viewing his/her actual screen, TMG goes to what I guess is that "home person". For that reason I usually now don't delete the current person on view. I'm not sure just how this was determined by TMG as it is a person of no major importance to my research! I'd like the home person to be me, as ID #1, and can this be set up? If so, how, please? It has, Lee, but it was quite a while ago. And Lee continued: > Basically the situation is really not greatly different > than an adoption. Ron wondered: > 1. How do I record the birth of the new child and who > would I show as the biological mother female A or female B. As Roger Troutman and others cautioned: > female A is not the biological mother from a DNA ... perspective. > She is the adoptive parent, the "adoption" being prenatal. Ron, What you include in TMG and how you choose to use it to describe relationships is up to you. Do you want to show "family groupings", or do you want to show "genetic relationships" (which was the stated design intent of TMG)? Do you want to record all known information, or only non-sensitive information? The choices are yours, and the data entry methods and output reports will reflect your choices. But I agree with Roger and others. I would view this relationship as a prenatal adoption by the birth father and adopting/host mother. I discuss the issue of Adoptions at some length in my on-line book, which hopefully may give you some insights into the ways of recording such events in TMG: http://www.mjh-nm.net/TAGCUSTM.HTML#Adoption I offer two separate approaches ("one dataset person" and "two dataset persons"), along with suggestions for custom tags for each approach. In this case I would probably recommend the "one dataset person" as the child essentially only has one "event" associated with the birth mother: the fertilization. But that is a matter of choice. You are wise to think seriously about this, as it goes to the very heart of the purpose and use of your TMG database. Hope this gives you ideas, Michael
