There are two places to control where printing is done: -- the margin is controlled by clicking on the [Properties] button under the Report Destination of the main Report Definition Screen. -- the size of tab indents is set in the Page Options tab o f the [Options...] window of the Report Definition Screen. You can also Indent the Subject (Miscellaneous tab of the [Options...] window as well as adding Blank line before each subject and/or each family. Other than these, indents are controlled by the report design. Of course, you can edit the report in your word processor and change the indent there. Lee
Hi, I am using TMG 9.05 Gold. I am trying to print a journal report. I am using the customize because I want the spouse information to print out. Where do you control the indents for the children? I would like from left side to appear as: + 2 i John William WALE (6 was born in 1801 at England. He married Jane DUNCAN, daughter of William... Instead I am getting the first row of numbers & name indented: + 2 i John William WALE (6 was born in 1801 at England. He married Jane DUNCAN, daughter of William... Thanks, Paula
Hi, Not only will my printer not print any records (all greyed out in dropdown list) but unable to add, edit, or delete anything as they are also greyed out. the TMG printer is installed but it is not my default printer. Would this be the difference? Apparently the any(?) thing is also showing in the control panel something to do with previous instructions. In starting TMG it says trial expired so just close and it then loads. Would this also have something to do with the greyed out items? Any help appreciated, Pauline Ballentine
I just did it and hope never to have to reenter that info. But just in case, I keep a copy of the serial # in a Word doc, which I can quickly bring up to copy and paste. Run as Admin to permanently set the password. Right-click the app shortcut, and choose "Run as Admin". Enter password when prompted. Constance

The fix depends upon where you keep the icon for TMG on your desktop. First close TMG. If you have your TMG icon on the general part of the home screen, then you should right-click on the shortcut and choose "Run as Administrator". If you have your TMG icon on your "taskbar" for quick open, then it is two steps. First right click on the TMG icon (which shows two lines...."The Master Genealogist" ....and.... "unpin from the taskbar"). Right click again on the line that says "The Master Genealogist" and then click on "run as administrator". In both cases this will bring up a screen that requires you to fill in your name, email., and your full unlock code. Complete that screen and that should make Windows 10 happy that you have a paid copy. Can someone guide me through the merging of two projects: one for husband and one for wife Rolene Kiesling
I got the Abort Retry Ignore screen while doing some data entry, and abort was apparently the wrong thing to select. TMG froze & wouldn't do anything. Tried checking for an update to see if that would close TMG, but it had no effect. Had to use task manager to shut down TMG. Reboot didn't help. Got message that project was in use elsewhere. When I open TMG now, repair mode is activated. Click ok. "Open the last project used" is grayed out. "Select a project" takes me to explorer where I select my project. It starts the process, says it is creating indexes, then stops and says "An error happened when opening the data tables..." Click ok. TMG closes. Re-open TMG, repair mode repeats, but I can open the sample project, just not my project. Jim Byram posts on the WG forum to users seeing the same issues I have lead me to believe I may have damaged headers (although I don't know what that means). The WG forum tells me I can't start a new topic, even when I'm signed in - so I'm posting here. This was the last entry in Documents/The Master Genealogist v9/Logs/error.txt: 13Alias 'PLBASE' is not found. 51 FRMNAMESEL.CNTNAMESEL.MLOADNODES >From the archives it looks like PLBASE has to do with the place list, but that's all I can find. Can anyone tell me what this error means and if there is anything I can try short of doing a restore? To those of you who know Jim Byram, would he mind if I sent him an email explaining my problem since the forum won't let me do a post? I tried deleting temp files and .cdx files, but nothing changed. I suspect I need to restore from my last backup, but it's a couple days old & does not have recent changes I hope I won't have to re-create. Running TMG 9.05 on Windows10 and Norton Security Suite (no McAfee). I backup locally, so no Dropbox or other cloud backups to cause problems. Thanks in advance for any advice! Jo
Thanks! Amazing that you can use the same printer for years and then it disapears. I switched to my laptop printer and it was doing fine when all of a sudden it said the cartridge was missing??? So took out the black cartridge, reinserted it and it worked fine. Do believe these things have a mind of their own! An interesting quandary! I use the name and sex as recorded on a Birth Registration for the person in TMG. So that is defined initially. However, a Name Change (e.g. by Deed Poll or Marriage etc.) is covered by TMG but the sex change is a problem! And that could have ramifications should he/she marry. But then a "same sex marriage" is fine in TMG. In the case of "gender reassignment" or "sex change", is the Birth Registration changed? If not, then that would be the TMG Sex entry I'd maintain, but a Note to the effect that there had been a surgical/hormonal change should be put with a suitable date. No doubt we will all encounter these events in our research at some time, and I don't think there's a single definite answer to the query. The OP stated to be running Windows 10 on the problem machine. Win10 already comes with a PDF printer (Microsoft Print to PDF; though I don't recall if it is automatically listed or has to be activated when configuring Win10 -- it is listed in Control Panel/Programs/Windows Features and may need to be checked to activate it -- or if it was active but deleted... https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-hardware/how-to-add-or-reinstall-the-microsoft-pdf-printer/70377c34-e50a-42be-b9f3-92345d6e25df ). I'm confused by the mention of "sample" -- I don't know of any "sample reports"; just the sample project. Since the printer config is stored in the app.ini file, it wouldn't change between projects. I would recommend checking File/Printer Setup to see if it is set for "Windows Default" (in which case opening Control Panel/View Devices and Printers to ensure there is a printer with a green checkmark is advised). If "Selected Printer" was chosen, make sure that printer name is valid (if the app.ini had been copied from a different computer the printer name may only be valid on that other computer). -- bieber.genealogy@earthlink.net Dennis Lee Bieber HTTP://home.earthlink.net/~bieber.genealogy/
Do you have any printers defined on your machine? This usually means it can't find the printer. Because it can't find your printer, it can't figure out how to size the report. At minimum, you can download the freeware "Cute PDF" which installs as a printer on your computer and everything "printed" results in PDF output. Constance
Hi, Tried to print a report but the options are all greyed out with the exception of the sample. This was tried on my desktop which is now using win10. I was able to print out family group sheets on my laptop but not a pedigree . Help! Pauline Ballentine
