    3. Robin Kaspar asked: > Is there a report that can be run that shows > the input history for a date range? Unfortunately not really, Robin. The only feature in TMG which shows some form of indication of change based on date is the "Last edited" field. Unfortunately, that field is only at the person level, and is updated upon ANY edit action for that person. Further there can be false positives because if you open a tag for edit and click "OK" instead of "Cancel" the date is updated even if you made no changes. > I am hoping to be able to generate something after every input session > so that in case of data loss, I can restore from backup and see what > I might need to re-key. I suggest instead, that you simply save a backup after every input session. As long as you do not lose those backups you should not have a problem. You did not ask, but the only way I know of to identify "what" has been changed between two TMG backups involves the "differences" feature of Word. Restore one backup and run a Journal report to Word whose Options includes absolutely everything. Now restore the other backup and run the exact same Word report. Then use the Word "differences" feature to highlight and show the differences between the two reports. Sorry there isn't a better answer, but the underlying Foxpro database system which TMG uses does not record changes. Michael

    3. Erik Hov asked for: > a filter that let me find people with the AAS Y flag > who should be kept because their parents have AAS and N... > I have a "Possibles" flag as well... As Lee noted, you cannot do this with just one Flag. That is why I earlier described using a second Flag, like your "Possibles" Flag, to help with your efforts. It is also needed in this situation. The "trick" is one I mentioned to you last year: the bottom of the Filter screen lets you add Ancestors to the filter qualifying people. Based on your comments the people with AAS=Y is smaller than those with N. So, run a List of People report filtered for AAS = Y. BUT at the bottom of the Filter definition check (only) the Ancestors box and set it to one generation (which are these qualifying people's parents). On the Secondary Output tab of the Report Options, cause the report to set the Possibles Flag to 'Y' for these people. Thus all the AAS=Y people PLUS their parents now will have Possibles=Y. If the parents already have AAS=Y they will not add to the count. The count of people will only increase by parents who have AAS-N. Now run a second List of People report filtered for Possibles=Y AND AAS=N. This will result in a much shorter list, and will be a list just of those parents who have AAS=N but who have a child with AAS=Y. While that is a list of the parents not of the children, it should be a small enough list. Just review all these parents, and see if you wish to change any of their chilren whose AAS Flag value is Y to instead be N. Could you get a list of just the children? Yes, but that would involve using a third Flag, and another LOP filter which added descendants to one generation, etc. But this list of parents should be small enough to not need doing that, especially if a single set of AAS=N parents have multiple children with AAS=Y. 3. Is there a report that can be run that shows the input history for a date range? Or something like that? I am hoping to be able to generate something after every input session so that in case of data loss, I can restore from backup and see what I might need to re-key. Thanks Robin in Short Pump

    3. I could make two reports of persons and sort it in excel etc...... But it also belong to the story that I have 993000 people in total in my project just now (therefore splitting up!!!) ,so the AAS N people would result in a list of about 870000 people and a AAS Y list would be about 120000......so it would be many to go through to actually find the people that should not be deleted (it is probably a very small amount). -----Opprinnelig melding----- Fra: Lee Hoffman [mailto:azchief@bellsouth.net] Sendt: 7. februar 2019 16:20 Til: The Master Genealogist Rootsweb Email List <tmg@rootsweb.com> Emne: [TMG] Re: flag and filter... You cannot create a filter for people based on conditions of other people. The only thing I can suggest is to make a report of persons with the AAS Y Flag which include the parents' ID#s and then checking the parents for the AAS Flag setting. However, the size of the list would prohibit this in my mind. I am brainstorming on this, but possibly sending the above report to a speadsheet which can then be sorted on the parent's ID#(s) and then another report of persons with the AAS N Flag and combine the two such that the same ID#s for parents in the first group might be close to the similar ID#s of the second group. This might allow a relatively fast review and give what you need. 1. [TMG] flag and filter...
    2. Erik Hov
    3. Hello. I have prepared about 121000 which I am going to delete from my project after splitting. Just have to be sure I have found the right people to delete before really doing it. I have flagged the people to be deleted with a flag called "AAS" with values Y (Yes) and N (No). Y for those I am going to delete (accented with a blue color) ,and N for the others with the usual green-like color (which I will keep). I am now working on finding out if I have forgotten people who should get the N instead of Y since I may have missed some who still have the Y. I was able to find some spouses and set them to N to keep ,but have some trouble with finding parents..... Therefore ,I wonder what`s the filter for finding "AAS" flags with Y that has parents marked with "AAS" and N??? Hopefully that would be a filter that let me find people with the AAS Y flag who should be kept because their parents have AAS and N. Guess some filter could be done on List of people.....(I have a "Possibles" flag as well ,but not sure if that can be used on the List of people to something....) (Have worked a bit with trying out different filters ,but not seemingly getting the right one....) Erik

    3. Brian, I have heard similar reports before. When I investigated, there were errors in the sentence definition of the Tag Type, errors that could not be fixed via the TMG user interface. Please contact me off-list if you'd like me to investigate. Use my jfcardinal email address on GMail.com. John

    3. I'm trying to change the Sentence associated with the Name-Marr tag. When I look at the Master Tag Type List, the Name-Marr tag shows a Sentence. When I try to edit the tag, the sentence does not appear under the Roles and Sentences tab. When I enter new sentences under the Roles and Sentences tab, the Male Sentence Structure appears in the Tag Type List but both disappear from the Roles and Sentences tab. Despite the sentences disappearing, TMG remembers them and uses the appropriate (male of female) sentence in reports. Does that description make any sense? Is this something that's been seen before? This is the first Tag I've encountered where I can't see the sentences to edit them. But the sending dataset > remains unchanged in the project... What I failed to recognize is that it seems you are confusing the concepts of Dataset and Project. Terry's Tips explains the difference between the two TMG concepts better than I can here: https://tmg.reigelridge.com/projects-datasets.htm But to use your case, TMG always opens a "Project", which may be comprised of many "Datasets" within that project. When you display a person or open the Picklist to search for a person, if the ID number is two parts (a number before a colon followed by a number, e.g. 34:1) that is indicating that this person is person number 1 in dataset 34. After your merge of dataset 34 into dataset 1 you now should *also* find what "looks like" the same person in the Picklist but with a number like 1:5213. That is the *duplicate* of person 34:1 which was created when dataset 34 was copied onto the end of dataset 1. But dataset 34 still exists with all its people, so you see both "persons". It is because these duplicates from different datasets can be confusing that I mentioned in my post last night: > If you wish, you may use the Dataset Manager to now delete the > sending dataset 34 as all its information is now also in dataset 1. Hope this helps explain, Michael P.S. You said "Hi from a warm New Zealand", well Hi back from the warm desert of New Mexico.

Once I know the solution I can do a restore >and start over. Merging of project and data sets depend on the _direction_ in which the merge takes place. In your merge, data set (DS) #34 is the "new" data and your want to merge it into/append to DS #1. In the Merge Data Sets window. one of these will be shown as Data set A and the other as Data set B.. Below these fields is the options Mertge B to A and Merge A to B.. Whichever option is selkected depends on how you want the merge to go. I suspect that you want to merge DS #34 to DS #1. This adds the new DS to the old one. The result being that nothing is really changed in DS #1 except that DS #34 data has been added (at the end) and the DS #34 data has new ID#s at the end (in the high #s) of DS #1. So if your old data has new ID#s then you have done the Merge "backwards". In this case, you need to Restore a backup (you did this before the merge, right?), and re-do the Merge in the proper "direction". Lee

After the Merge the "people" and their tags of the sending dataset are copied into the receiving dataset.  But the sending dataset remains unchanged in the project.  If you wish, you may use the Dataset Manager to now delete the sending dataset 34 as all its information is now also in dataset 1.

Hi Brian, The only way I can imagine producing two outputs of the Name-Marr sentence is if there are two Name-Marr tags. There should only be one for a given Marriage. Commonly a Name-Marr tag is automatically produced by TMG (possibly as a result of agreeing to a prompt) when you Add a Marriage tag. That automatically produced Name-Marr tag will be created with the same Date and Sort Date as the Marriage tag. Just open that existing Name-Marr tag for edit, put your cursor at the end of its existing Sort Date, add a question mark character at the end, and Okay the tag edit window. Hope this helps, Michael

From the topic on Merging Data Sets in the Import/Export chapter of my on-line book, the subtopic of merging people says: https://www.mjh-nm.net/IMEXPORT.HTML#MergePeople "The people in the sending dataset are added to the receiving dataset. The ID numbers of the people in the sending dataset will retain their ID _order_ but begin at one number higher than the highest ID number in the receiving dataset, i.e. gaps in the ID numbers in the receiving dataset will not be used." 3. I stand corrected. I liked editing in the master place list. I thought he could do his editing from there.Leo Glueckstein 920 698 1669Sent from my U.S.Cellular© Smartphone S9 -------- Original message --------From: Terry Reigel <terry@reigelridge.com> Date: 2/4/19 5:16 PM (GMT-05:00) To: The Master Genealogist Rootsweb Email List <tmg@rootsweb.com> Subject: [TMG] Re: Number of Citations in Master Place List On 2/4/2019 4:44 PM, leoglue wrote:> I am not at my computer but I recall a report that may be titled "places" or something like that where you can edit the addresses which worked very well for me. But I'm not seeing how that relates to Joel's question.Terry_______________________________________________Email preferences: http://bit.ly/rootswebprefUnsubscribe https://lists.rootsweb.com/postorius/lists/tmg@rootsweb.comPrivacy Statement: https://ancstry.me/2JWBOdY  Terms and Conditions: https://ancstry.me/2HDBym9Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blogRootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb community

    1. [TMG] Merging Datasets
    2. Garry F Bell
    3. Hi from a warm New Zealand I want to merge a small Dataset of 50 individuals to my Primary Dataset. (There are no duplicates). I know the procedure but am concerned about ID Numbers. How do I make sure that those individuals now in the Primary Dataset are issued with "new" IDs" preceded by their "new" Dataset Number? Thanks Garry
