I goofed. I created a tag city directory, but did not enter any definition. Then I found that there was already a tag (city (county) directory in the master tag list. So I went back to delete the tag I created but it deleted both. Is there a way to restore the tag created in TMG. I am using V9.05 on a windows 7 platform. Thanks for your help! Importing a TMG v4 Backup SQZ file into TMG v9 is essentially the same as importing a TMG v9 Backup. The only difference is that v4 to v9 causes an version update. This update would be the same if you updated from v3.5 to v4 to v5 to v6 to v7 to v8 to v9. No data is lost and the project data remains the same. The only difference is the added features of v9 over earlier versions. >Any other dataset within the project I have would not work I think ,because >of size. Hi, Contacting the list yet again hoping for a solution. I've had ongoing problems with my project, which I've written here about before. When they resurfaced recently I tried to resolve by creating a new project, then merging my existing project into it as dataset 2, then deleting the blank dataset 1 created in the project set up. This seems to have worked but has left me with a problem that, if possible, I'd rather not address manually. I had a configuration saved that I used when checking for duplicate people. This had found about 6,500 potential matches, of which I'd marked about 6,400 as non duplicates. When I ran the check tonight, using that configuration, it found around the same number of potential matches, but had none marked as not duplicates. Rather than start again and mark off thousands of non duplicates, I would like to recover the output from the old configuration run and copy it to my 'new' project. It is important to stress that all the people and all of the data on the new project are exactly the same as on the old one. Hence 3 questions: 1. Is it possible to recover a file that has the marked pairs on it? 2. Is it possible to copy that file to the location of my new project? 3. If the answer to both the above is 'yes', is this safe to do? ANy suggestions appreciated. Tom

Hello I am going to do some editing from TMG 4 over to TMG 9.05..... Is it any way of doing that without having two computers with different Windows systems??. I have a laptop with Windows XP which TMG 4 is working fine on ,but do I have to have that laptop open with TMG 4 and the other computer with TMG 9.05?. Or is it any way (without having a virtual drive on Windows 7!) to get both versions work on Windows 7 64 bit??. I am able to use DOS on Windows 7 64 bit with help of DOSbox. As I have understood it ,TMG 4 is not DOS of course(!) ,but is not compatible with Windows 64 bit at all?. So......is it any way of working with TMG 9.05 and TMG 4 in Windows 7 64 bit without having a virtual drive with Windows XP on??? Thanks , Erik

Wouldn`t it then just be to move up or down on the accents menu? ,or edit those accents for the project that gets the wrong accents?.
I am experiencing problems with missing images. I routinely (daily) run optimize and validate before backing up and exiting TMG – validate reports NO problems finding images; however I just found several missing images and when I immediately ran validate it reported no problems but they remained missing. The image files exist in my image directory and I deleted the bad images and re-linked the correct images. What can I do to search TMG for missing images? AND why would they be disappearing in the first place?Running the latest TMG Gold Edition with 10,465 people. Windows 10

Erik, The Standard Flags are Sex, Living, Adopted, Birth Order, and Multiple Birth. While you can change the names of them when you use a Language other than English (US), the are still "standard" Flags. Any other Flags are custom flags. You can tell the difference in Flag Manager because all the custom Flags have the Dataset number after them. > I have set the language to > Norwegian ,and have created at least two flags with accents on to sort out > ancestors and flagging people who I will later split out to other projects. > I am currently using the same accents file for two projects ,but had to > establish the same flags in both before I could use that acc file. > Those are then custom Flags. Consider it this way. Suppose you have two different computer with each having TMG running with a different project. You get up from one and go sit at the other. That does not make any difference to the first computer. On the other hand, if you have two instances of TMG open with the same project, the only difference will be what record is being worked on. If you open the Person View of ID# 281 in one instance and open the Birth Tag (just to look at it), Then you switch to the second instance of TMG and go to the same ID#281m and attempt to open the same Birth Tag then you will get a notice that the Tag is open somewhere else. You can then tel TMG not to open the Tag (and go do something else) or have TMG open the Tag anyway. TMG wiil then open the Tag, but will not allow any changes as the Tag is "locked" by the other instance.. If the two (or more) instances of TMG have different projects open, then you will not see any "locked" record as TMG keeps the data files completely separate, Lee

Generally, the answer is no. The only real question is the capacity (the resources) of your computer. This applies to how many programs (tasks) you are running -- not just TMG. You might have an e-mail client, a couple instances of TMG, a spreadsheet, a work processor, Windows Explorer, and more running. Mostly, your computer will manage the tasks as needed without you noticing anything. Inactive tasks will be temporarily written to your hard drive while another is active then the current active task will be written to the hard drive when you select an inactive task to be active.. Theoretically, when you switch between tasks, you will not notice anything. But if you have enough tasks running compared with your computer resources then you may notice a slight delay switching tasks. >I am doing maintenance on all my projects now and backing them up......and >on one of the projects (now free for errors!!) TMG corrected about 4500 >potensial errors) Whether you are just using a TMG task to view a project or are editing/creating Tags or other records doesn't matter to your computer. An active tasks is an active task. Now one task may require slightly more computer resources at any given moment (be it a second, a micro-second or even a nano-second). But, that changes as you select to edit, navigate tyo another person, or whatever. Lee

Erik, As Rickard said, Accents using custom Flags do not recognize the Flags by their names but by internal reference IDs that we cannot see. These IDs will not necessarily be the same for custom Flags of the same name in a different Project, so you may not get the expected result using Accents from a different Project if they use custom Flags. There should not be a problem if the Accents use standard Flags, but I don't think that's what you mean. Terry Reigel

Hello. Just wondering......two questions: 1 about accents.... I have different flags of course ,and wonder if it possible to use one accent file for all my projects if I desire to? And how to do that without messing up on other projects??. I have 18 projects (not included the sample project) ,and 41 acc files..... What if you ,let`s say, have two different projects up running at the same time ,and you run maintenance on one ,and entering some people into the other project..... Would working in one project while doing maintenance on the other project cause any damamge or etc?? I am doing maintenance on all my projects now and backing them up......and on one of the projects (now free for errors!!) TMG corrected about 4500 potensial errors) Thanks , Erik
