    3. I have created "place styles" which I use these circumstances. These have "Output Templates" that include just those parts of the address I want to appear in my reports. One style leaves out the country, another, leaves out the country and County (I am in the UK) another leaves out the Country County, and City. 3. There is a TMG-refugees mail list for this topic. It hasn't been very active recently, but you can search the archives and find many helpful messages. There is not a one size fits all for this. Each user has their own needs. Staying with TMG at this time works for some, for others moving to Roots Magic or Legacy or some other program is the choice. Other, like me have chosen a combination of staying with TMG and also moving to another program. Read the messages on that mail list. You should find them very helpful. Sounds like something for a custom Place Style... You'd likely still have to add all the fields in the detail records, but by selecting the custom Place Style the narrative reports will only show the fields identified in the style template. -- bieber.genealogy@earthlink.net Dennis Lee Bieber HTTP://home.earthlink.net/~bieber.genealogy/

You can use the Exclusion Marker ("-" in the first position of a field) to suppress that field. Look this up in the TMG Help for more information. When I have a city-county-state, I usually Exclude the County meaning only the City and State print. You could do similarly by Excluding the County, State and Country (assuming you have Country entered). But you need to look at each Tag and the kind of report to see the order in which Tags print when. Then, check that Exclusion Marks are set for all Tags for each person as you desire as there is no "automatic" way to select to print everything and then just the City (or whatever combination you want). 3. This is where I also rely on Sureties.  We have all of the tools to manage our data in the way that best suits our individual "wiring".  So indebted to Bob and the crew that developed this software. JoAnn This sounds reasonable to me. Especially if your sources only date from the 1950s. I have a few of those kind of Sources and while most have been found to be 100% accurate, I have only included then to remind me where I got the information (and wasn't something I made up). Other than that, I also have an added Source that simply says this data currently has no solid contemporary evidence supporting it -- so beware. Once I do find contemporary (or solid secondary) evidence, I cite that and delete the earlier two Source (especially the warning citation).

    3. I should've been more clear in my earlier post on how to do this. You CAN make a shortcut to the index.htm file instead of to the "site" which is far quicker. Initially I couldn't do this, but in another attempt, it worked. Regards, Toby

    2. Toby Turner via
    3. I figured out the following method which should work for other files as well. I'm posting it here in case someone might find it helpful: 1. Download and install Android File Transfer (free) from Google Play onto your Mac. 2. Connect android phone via usb cable to Mac. AFT must "see" your phone. You may have to connect a time or two. On my Mac, it shows up briefly as a CD. 3. Using Finder, you should see under Devices listed as Android File Transfer. 4. If you are installing to a secondary storage device (worth buying), you must highlight Card in order to see what's on your device. Go to Android/Data. 5. Drag your entire SS folder into an empty space under Data. It'll take a little while because of the usb transfer. 6. On your android phone, download and install ES File Explorer (free) from Google Play. 7. Open ES File Explorer. Click on extSdCard/Android/Data/:Your SS Folder's name" under which you will find a "site" folder. LongPress on the site folder, tap More brings up a menu. Then, tap Add to Desktop. This will place your shortcut in the first empty space on one of your Home Screen pages. It can be moved there, if you wish it elsewhere. Whereas there may be a way to rename the "site" folder to something more useful, my android os seems to prevent this unless ES File Explorer is "rooted" which is also impossible with my version of the os. Oh, well. It might be quicker if you have a card reading device, to employ that to move the SS folder directly from your Mac to the ssd card. However, our card reader has disappeared. Regards, Toby

    3. Toby, You emailed "to me" and not the group, so I'm replying here (TMG/Rootsweb), for benefit all readers. You indicated you signed up to the Second Site support group on google groups, that's great! That's the official online support location for Second Site users. Once you're there, you can use the "search" the group function, which I did using "android" as a keyword, and I saw a few discussions related to your question regarding viewing a Second Site website locally (not on the internet) on the phone. You also asked about "detailed instructions" and sorry, I have none, however, some time ago, following a review of the SS google group messages and some trial and error, I succeeded. One of the messages I found helpful came from Jim Byram, listing steps: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!searchin/ss-l/android/ss-l/sEqd _DM5vCk/5u3B9DL0RswJ. I also posted that I was unable to use the web browser to locate the "index.htm" (or similar) file to open the site, but instead used a file utility app and once I found the file and opened it, I was able to save a shortcut or favorite to it for future use. Barbara posted a method to place it as a direct launch item on the phone, so that sounds terrific too. Also, I don't use Apple interfaces, Parallels, etc, so I have no suggestions there. 3. It is also possible on Android phones (mine at least, pre-Lollipop vintage) to create an icon on the home screen that will open up your file directly without having to go through a bookmark or history. In FF, first access the file. Then long-hold the URL box and choose "Add to home screen". In Chrome, instead choose the drop down menu (the three dots), then "Add to home screen". If there is a lot of work, I usually just summarize it using the Source citations I describe above. Either way, I prefer all data entered no matter how accurate. This way (especially after it is disproved), I know I have seen it before and don't have to re-invent the wheel. This come into play often when I show/share my data with someone and they say that it doesn't agree with something they have and I can quickly produce the reason why they data is incorrect. Lee

    3. FYI, I've had SS website output on a Galaxy Note 2 phone using Android operating system for some time now. I replied to one or more inquiries on the SS google group list with details. Similar to Michael's post below, I found that it worked for me by copying the SS output files/folders that I made for CD output to a secondary storage card on the phone. I found through trial and error that the default built-in Android OS browser did not work (as far as I experimented / tried) and found that the Firefox app for the phone did work. Once the site is found in Firefox, I access it through a bookmark or history rather than navigation within the phone data storage - works for me. Also, unlike Michael, I have / had no issue using Android 4 versions, where Michael notes below otherwise. I now can use the new version of ES File Explorer to fully access the external SD card on my Android phone. The external card root is now "/storage/extSdCard". I made a directory for my SS files named: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/Genealogy The new version of FireFox reads these SS files from the external card without any difficulty, and I have a bookmark to the index main file. So we Android users are back in business with SS on external SD cards. Michael
