    1. [TMG] VCF printing
    2. Patt Ricketts via
    3. Hi, I can't seem to get VCF to accept my roll printer. In the past I had to make the printer my default printer and then VCF would accept the different printing sizes. But now the page setup just accepts regular paper. Does anyone know how to get it to accept the roll paper? The chart is 13X38 and I have 13" roll paper. I tried exporting to jpg to print that way but when it exports it resizeds to 17.333 X 49.333 resolution 72. If I scale it down I loose some of the lines. Patt -- Patt Ricketts www.jackandpatt.com

    2. BTW, John, there were 7 people it didn't work for (I found them in TMG by filtering the PE for Name-Marr date field not empty). All 7 were "between" dates. No problem deleting those dates by hand, but thought you should know that ^.*$ didn't quite get rid of them all, though close enough - lots better than the 754 there were before. -- Kathryn > > -----Original Message----- > > Kathryn, > > Set the options like this:

    1. [TMG] TMG Utility question
    2. I want to eliminate all the dates from Name-Marr. I tried below but that gives me Error 5018, invalid pattern. Options: Field: Name Date (Regular only) Find what: * Replace with: <ignored; Find All only> In Names: Name-Marr Contents must match Find What exactly: Unchecked Use Pattern Matching: Checked Match case: Unchecked Find Whole Word Only: <na> Convert to Regular Date: Checked Copy to Sort Date: Checked I know that I could Delete Tags by Type and then go back and Add Married Names, but I have a bunch of people who shouldn't have married names and I don't remember them all. So, is there a Utility option to just get rid of the dates in the Name-Marr field? -- Kathryn Bassett kathrynatgwens@socal.rr.com (work) kathryn@bassett.net (home)

Linda, Michael has told you how to do it manually as you go through each Tag. If you have lots of citations to this source that already have other sources cites the TMG Utility has a feature designed specifically for this task. Easily done, Linda, When you open the tag with such a citation, RIGHT click on the citation. Then choose "Exclude this citation" in the menu. For any report where you do _not_ choose the Report Option to "Show excluded data" that citation will be suppressed. But you can still produce reports for your own purposes which include those citations by selecting that option. Hope this gives you ideas, Michael

In the case of a filter like this with multiple data sets, the vale entered would be like "1:1" and "2:16" (no quotes) where the data set ID# is the leading part before the separating colon. If you just enter the persons' ID#, TMG will ask for the ID#. The above may not be the best filter for you, but there are many others that will make the PE show a smaller subset of the people in the two data sets. This will allow you to easily look at and compare the similar persons from both data sets. A Focus Group is another method. The advantage of the PE is that the arrows at the top of the PE allow you to easily "step through" the persons in the PE. Lee

    3. Lee Thanks you for thoughts. I must admit that having been "shown" TMG by someone and it was more Second Site that I wanted, I learnt by their mistakes. I should have remembered my own early computing days and gone back to basics and learnt it myself from scratch - but then most of us these days want to hit the road running and TMG isn't that easy! Two datasets in the same project does seem the more logical and the reason for importing it into a separate dataset of course is to make it easier to tidy it up first. Now to fine an easy day to find the people that appear in both sets! Any import into TMG must be into a new data set. That new data set could be in an existing project _or_ in a new project. Since a data sets in a project is completely separate from any other data set in that project, it really makes no difference (except person preference) as to which way an import is done. With an import into an existing project, a step would be saved of merging project _if_ that is anticipated. The Data Set Manager of a project allows a data set to be enabled or disabled. If a data set is disabled, all data (persons, sources, repositories, exhibits, etc.) in that data set are effectively hidden and cannot be seen or manipulated in any way until such time as that data set is enabled. With this in mind, if I were planning to import data into TMG with the aim of eventually merging that data into an existing data set, I would import into the project containing the proposed target data set. I could then enable/disable the data sets that are/are not of interest as I had need _or_ I could simply have them all enabled to see all the data. I do this often with client data sets in my main project because if is not unusual for me to have someone in my main data set that is also in the client data set. I can then easily copy from one data set to the other as I have need. (I can also _move_ person(s) from one data set to the other - but I _usually_ prefer copying as that is less hazardous to the original data set). TMG Help has good discussions of both copying & moving persons between data sets. Having said all this, it really comes down to personal preference. Importing into an existing project may save a few keystrokes (the later merging of projects) but that really is not that big a deal if one feels safer. Having multiple projects does mean that the data from one data set (in say project A) cannot be easily compared with data from a data set in project B. Of course, one can do this by having two instances of TMG open, so this isn;t really a big disadvantage either. So, really, flip a coin and tip it toward the way you feel more compfortable. Lee

    3. 1. It was *not *necessary to reinstall TMG, only to run it as administrator once, and no subsequent file errors. I never had need to look at those log files before. 2. The other errors were fixed after using HP Utility and Windows update. Took about 10-15 minutes to install updates, but all was well after that. 3. It turned off Norton360, which took me over an hour to get back. Was finally able to run and install update. Bob On 8/16/2015 5:10 PM, Walter D Wood via wrote: > I am also having this problem. 1. [TMG] TMG v9.5 with Windows 10 - Program Error
    2. Jeanette Hartnack via
    3. Hello fellow TMG users. I am hoping someone on the list can help me through a problem I've encountered in the last few days. I have the Gold UK edition, version 9.05, and I am also using Windows 10. When launching TMG I get a Program Error which says: File access is denied c:\users\user\documents\the master genealogist v9\log s\_programstartlog.log. The only way I can get the program to continue on is to select 'Ignore'. When the 'Welcome Window' appears I can select the last file used, but then I get the following error message: File access is denied c:\users\userdocuments\the master genealogist v9\logs\registercontrol.log. 13 TMGAPPOBJ.MOCX Again, if I select 'Ignore', the program proceeds to open my 'last file used'. However, from here on, I can't generate reports or perform a backup successfully. I have not attempted any data entry since this problem started, so I do not know if the error affects this. I have attempted to repair the program by running the program installer for v 9.5 (tmg9uksetup.exe) as an administrator. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but still get the same program error messages. I am really concerned about it! Please - would anyone have any ideas on what could be happening here and what to do to fix it? I would be very grateful for any help anyone can give. Regards, Jeanette Hartnack

Karla, No. If you move the data set in your "friend" project to your family project it will be included in backups. Terry Reigel
