I expect that is a false warning and probably depends on setti9ngs in your anti-virus software. If you go to <http://www.irfanview.com> and click on Download, you can select from a bunch of download sites. I like the TUCOWS site myself. If you still get the warning, just ignore it. Lee
PS..... The tiny url explaining how to save AOL didn't work as suggested. I opened an Email, highlighted it, and hit SAVE AS (HTML). When I clicked it open, it contained a bunch of weird files and did not contain the highlighted message anywhere. When I hit Forward to temporarily save (so I can copy and paste to TMG,) that worked the best. Then I deleted the Forward Email. Terry > On Aug 25, 2015, at 1:11 PM, Taryn L. I am playing around with everyone's suggestions about saving or deleting Emails as sources. What are the pros and cons to saving them as PDF's or downloading Irfanview and saving as JPG? Note: Some scanners come with software so make sure you check what they come with. One, a long time ago, came with full Photoshop (before it went to the web version). That was a great deal! Actually you can set the scanner itself to recognize and individually scan multiple items on the bed. You don't have to have Photoshop Elements for that. BUT I love Photoshop Elements and used it for years before moving to Lightroom and full Photoshop CC. Have a great day! Robin, I also use Photoshop Elements for the same reason. But, unfortunately the latest version 13 does not support Twain. I had to go back to version 11 (I don't know about 12). I, too, have an older LIDE which served me well when I went to visit family and unexpectedly was presented with my aunt’s photo album with pictures of my dad I’d never seen. I ran right over to Best Buy and bought the LIDE which fit in my computer bag with my laptop. But what I’d like to mention now is that if you decide to go with a flatbed scanner, pick up Photoshop Elements, which has a feature where you can put as many photos on the glass as will fit, leaving a margin around each one, and PSE will separate them into individual files. A big time saver! It might cost about the same as the scanner LOL but think about what your time is worth. Take it from someone who has scanned a lot of photos, it was worth it to me. Just over a year ago Bob made his announcement that the best family history software was to be discontinued. Unfortunately I missed the anniversary last month of his announcement but I remember that he cited ill-health as one of his reasons for the decision. It would be intrusive of me to ask how his health is progressing but I would like to say how much I hope that in the course of the last year it has since improved. From the comments I read on the TMG-REFUGEES list it appears that it will be a long time before any other software will reach TMG's level of versatility. Bob's creation always led the field. Best wishes, Bob, and thanks for your quarter of a century's contribution to our passion. -- Tom

A little more info than what you want, but something to consider is what I have to say. An EPson DS-560 for the fast scanning of things that can go through a feed-through. That's a stand-alone scanner. Not cheap, but excellent quality, and scans double sided. Once set up a default folder for all the scans to go to (I have one called TempScans), then I just stand at the scanner and use the menu on the MFP. Scan, open lid, put down another item, touch scan on the menu, repeat. I had a series of about 3 dozen 11x17 pages that I needed to scan, and got them done in a short time. When done, I go back to computer, open folder, and rename from the default img2015-08-23_0001 (0002 etc) to whatever I want, and move them to wherever appropriate. BTW, you can set the default name to prefix the date with something other than img. For instance I did a series of maps and so did map2015-08-23_0001 (0002 etc). > > -- > Kathryn Rhinehart Bassett (Pasadena CA) > "Genealogy is my bag" "GH is my soap" > kathryn@bassett.net > http://bassett.net > >> -----Original Message----- >> On Behalf Of Pam Wood Waugh via >> Has anyone purchased a cheap MFP that scans old photos and docs pretty >> well? I, and I'm sure many others, agree wholeheartedly that TMG is an outstanding contribution to the genealogy field, and thank Bob for it and wish him the very best. Unfortunately I missed the anniversary last month of his announcement but I remember that he cited ill-health as one of his reasons for the decision. Pam, I'm using a Canon MG6320 which is a MFP and about 2-3years old and I am very satisfied with it. It does all the things you have mentioned. This is an older model and I haven’t check for new equivalents but the Canon site should be able to help you there.
