    3. If you use surety settings, that can cause omissions in reports if the report Surety option is set to filter out certain surety levels. Set the Surety option on the report's General tab to have the "No Threshold" and "Include blank surety" items selected. If this fixes the problem then you probably have an incompatible surety setting on one or more sources for the people who aren't appearing. -----Original Message----- From: tmg-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tmg-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Muriel Parker via Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2015 10:21 AM To: TMG@rootsweb.com Subject: [TMG] Unknown spouses, no dates, no places I'm trying to develop a Descendant Indented chart for a family with four children. Two of the children come up with "unknown spouse" instead of the names, as does the mother. I've tried using the father and the mother as the subject and it happens in both cases. * Also**, *no dates or tags (b,d,m) appear. 3. Hi Ann, > ... there are some conflicts or problems between TMG and Dropbox. Not unless you create them <grin>. You need to keep the two separate. So, your TMG directories stay as they are, and your Dropbox directories are completely separate. These means that people sharing photographs, whatever, place them in the Dropbox folder and you take copies and place them where you want (e.g. in your exhibits directory). Personally I copy such files into what I call a working directory. I can then do what I want with them AFTER saving the original - e.g. rename, alter the type (e.g. to JPG), crop, tidy up, whatever. So - keep them separate. Chris

    3. Recently, my hard disk crashed and in the rebuilding process I reinstalled TMG v9.05 using "Run as Administrator". I'm using Win7 on a 64 bit computer. I also ran the TMG 9.05 installer an additional time using the repair option. I succeeded in unlocking the full version. However, in attempting to enter data, I am blocked.see attachments. When I successively hit CANCEL I receive the message: Alias REPEAT is not found. When I select "Ignore" I receive the message:Variable REP_VALUE is not found.

A few people would like to share photos etc with me via Dropbox which I'm happy to install. However I recall from the list that there are some conflicts or problems between TMG and Dropbox. What settings should I use in Dropbox to avoid these? Thanks in advance Ann

What is the setting in File=>Preferences=>Current Project Options=>Advanced=>Repeat files? By default, it is usually something like: C:\Users\[username]\Documents\The Master Genealogist v9\Repeat_files\ If not make sure that the setting there is a valid file path. Next, click on File=>Maintenance=>Initialize Repeat Files. This will set up the appropriate files. They will be empty until you have made some entries. Lee

You should not include TMG folders in the Dropbox backup. Instead, after a TMG backup, copy the latest TMG Backup SQZ file to a folder backed up through Dropbox. I have a folder called TMG Backups that is separate from my other TMG folders and the only thing there are TMG SQZ files that are copied there from the regular TMG Backup folder location at set in the TMG's Preferences=>Advanced. 3. Actually you don’t even need a Dropbox account if the people sharing already have an account all they need to do is give you access to a folder then you can access it via a browser and download the files to your computer. It’s been a while since I’ve done this, the same thing works with other similar services like MS OneDrive etc. Glenn > On Aug 29, 2015, at 11:43, Rick Van Dusen via <tmg@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > But it gets even better: You do not need to even install Dropbox on your > computer to use it. 3. Just don't include your TMG data folders in the Dropbox sync and you should be fine. Default Dropbox install is that you get a Dropbox folder on your computer that mirrors what your account has online. Just don't add your TMG to that. But it gets even better: You do not need to even install Dropbox on your computer to use it. If you merely open a Dropbox account and make a folder for sharing, you can do what you're wishing to do. (Access is via browser only, and files transfer between the cloud and your computer is by your manual effort.) (From my experience and all I've heard, Dropbox is an excellent and helpful service. The only problem is that databases don't "play well" with such services.) Off-hand, I would say that your deletion action is somehow being "lost". Keep in mind that for almost all delete actions in TMG, the record being deleted is only "marked" for deletion and not then physically deleted. This allows recovery of deleted items that should not have been deleted (that would have been through Tech Support). To physically delete items marked for deletion, you need to run the Optimize function under File=>Maintenance. I would also suggest running the Validate File Integrity function as well. Lee

Tasks that are attached to person who are deleted should be deleted when the person is deleted. If Tasks are still present, the question is to whom/what are they attached. Keep in mind that Tasks may be attached to Persons, Events (Tags), Sources, and Repositories, or to nothing. These last are "General" Tasks that were never attached to any entity. First, I would suggest running the Maintenance Options -- Optimize, and Validate File Integrity. Then if you still have unwanted Tasks, they are either General Tasks and will have to be deleted individually, or they are Tasks attached to some entity (Person, Event, Source, or Repository) that still exists. 1. [TMG] Place List problem - TMG UK edition
    2. Martin in Portugal via
    3. I am a long term user of TMG, currently on v9.05 UK Gold Edition operating under Win7 32 Bit Pro. Only 1 dataset, Preferences Set - Default Country = United Kingdom; Data Entry Mode = Advanced; Place Labels = Disabled; Custom Styles = Greyed Out (by Program Design); Tools -> Master Style List -> Places -> Name of Style US Standard Place 1: UK - Place 1: Immigration 1: Australian Electoral Roll On occasion, during Data Entry when I have completed entering Tag information, up pops a 'rogue' Place Style that is not in the Place Style List. I am given the opportunity to Accept this Style by saying 'Yes' or to use the Style that is commonly used for that Place in this Dataset by selecting 'No', which is what I do in all cases. When I go to Delete this Style from the Master Style List I am advised that there are no occurrences of the 'rogue' Style in the dataset, so I Delete it. At irregular intervals subsequently, the 'rogue' Style re-appears. If I Back-up the Project with the Style List containing only the 4 Styles that I want, why does the 'rogue' Style re-appear when I Restore the Back-up? Is it possible that the 'rogue' Style is in the Style File, if so can I get in to that file and delete it forever, and which file would that be. I have looked in GTMOTMG, Terry's Primer, TMG Help and Searches in TMG-L etc. without finding a solution. It's not a show-stopper, but darned annoying during my Data Entry. 3. Lee, Spot on! Many thanks. My mistake was to highlight a tag, and then right-click. From your suggestion, I ignored all the tags, then right-clicked well away from the left-hand side, anywhere in the Details, Person window. The Filter selection pop-up appeared in full view.
