    3. - I received the following advice when I couldn't open my project.  It worked for me. - Judi Baumgarner - - Teresa Ghee Elliott Try restoring backup to another name. Sounds like it needs to delete the project files and then restore, but that's complicated to explain over email.May 13 at 11:00am · Like - Judi Alexander Baumgarner Thanks, Teresa. I created a new folder in T...M...G...v9\Projects\ and it restored my latest backup. Any suggestions for what I should do next, now that I have my project open?May 13 at 11:33am · Like - Teresa Ghee Elliott Just make sure you use that one from now on. Make a backup!!!! Then you can delete the old folder. Go slow. Make sure you have the right folder, and save that backup in case it doesn't work. But it sounds like you are home free. Make sure no images are in the project folder.May 13 at 11:36am · Like On Sunday, September 27, 2015 9:29 AM, Patt Ricketts via <tmg@rootsweb.com> wrote: Bud, Something like that happened to me about a year and a half ago. In the case of medical professionals, the title is often their most used name. But, as you say that looks very funny to see a small child listed in a census record as a doctor. >Is there a way to add the title only after her receives his >doctorate but not before? Sure, just add a Name-Var Tag, say using a Date of when he began his practice or when he was awarded his doctorate. 3. Thanks very much Terry. Will use this solution until I get to SS. I'm preparing many draft journals at the moment for family members to check and add to. Am thinking that I should begin using some macros to quickly format these and edit out things like a Fake Child, before sending them to the relevant family member. Do you use a macro or just search and replace? Ann On 9/26/2015 11:05 PM, Ann Carson via wrote: > I'm experimenting with TMG Journal reports at the moment. > > Is there any way I can make a child who doesn't have children appear > in birth order in the journal, rather than immediately after their parents? > > Ultimately I'm planning to use Second Site to produce the final 'journal' > for many in the family I'm documenting , but not for all. So to get a childless person to appear in his or her own section you have to attach a child, which you then edit out with a word processor. Second Site doesn't have that issue. Each person gets their own section or page, regardless of whether or not they have children. My solution is to add "Fake Child" to such people so they get their own section in a Journal, but make the child living so it doesn't appear in my site created with Second Site. This usually means that something in TMG got screwed up somewhere along the line -- probably during a power failure, a brown-out or a voltage spike (having a UPS or at least a power strip with suppression technology usually prevent this, but it can still happen). What the message is saying is that one of the project files is missing (in your case, the Name Dictionary, but it could be some other project file). The simple solution would be to do a Restore of your latest project Backup. My guess is that you have been experiencing some little oddities during the last work session or so. Nothing really wrong, but displays are odd and need to be re-displayed or you need to try the Picklist or Project Explorer filtering again, or some other little something. Usually the second try, everything seems to work and you just continue as everything now seems fine. This is TMG saying that it isn't well and as you continue, things just keep happening. At times like this, I would suggest re-installing TMG. And to make sure that you get a good reinstall, do an uninstall of TMG first (this just removes the program and leaves your folders). Then do the reinstall. Be sure you have your Serial number although you probably don't need it if you reinstall in the same manner as the original install. After the install is complete, do a Restore of your project. Hopefully, the Restored Backup is not that far back and you have as easy recovery of work that was done since the Backup. Lee Hoffman/KY

    3. Hi Bud, This happened to someone in our TMG users group and it was caused by McAfee antivirus. You could try restoring a backup to another computer as a test to confirm it's specific to the computer the errors are reported on. In our TMG users case, they did not have to "use" the backup, but rather it was just to confirm the McAfee issue and once that was fixed on the problem computer, they were good to go with their last working TMG project. Others on this forum may have reported similar (missing file) issues due to the cloud backup program or Dropbox. It depends. IF you have no Exhibits in the project then no, but it really doesn't matter. On the other hand, you probably have Exhibits, so the question is whether you are missing Exhibits. If some are missing then you want that option selected. If you don't have missing Exhibits then you don't need to search for them. I usually leave it checked either way as it only takes a short time and it may discover an Exhibit that got inadvertently moved or deleted during operations outside TMG. Lee

    3. I do the same thing that Terry does, and I call the fake child (no children) so it will more or less make sense in case I ever forget to edit it out of the report. Of course, giving all the fake children the same name makes them easier to search for and delete. Whether the childless child appears in birth order or immediately after the parents depends on the birthdate you give to the child. If you don't have an actual date you can always use a sort date. Terry Reigel

    1. Re: [TMG] Date calculator in TMG
    2. Graeme Simpson via
    3. I actually tested TMG's date calculator with a few samples against my own calculations subtracting (or adding) years then months then days. I found that it did take into consideration 30 vs 31 day months, why wouldn't it as they are a know entity. So when counting days into a partial month, it will use 30 or 31 days for the preceding month as appropriate. However, it does not cater for leap years when the preceding month is February, but always uses 28 days. So if your calculation of the number of days goes into March it would be correct unless it was a leap year when it would be 1 day more than it should be. Of course, this does not help us to know exactly how our ancestors calculated these Year, Month and Day times! As for using Microsoft products to calculate dates be aware that Excel thinks 1900 was a leap year unless you use an add-in to correct that. I can't comment on other their products as I haven't used them for date calculations.
