You have to add a NarrativeChildren Tag for the couple. With it, you can either create an alternate statement that is correct or use the [:NONE:] variable to just suppress the statement. Details are in my article at http://tmg.reigelridge.com/NarrativeChildren.htm Terry Reigel
Bud, You mentioned SS. Do the install of TMG first, and verify that it is working properly before you install either TMG Utility or SS. When TMG is all set, see the instructions here for SS: http://ss.johncardinal.com/transfer.htm John

It doesn't matter to me where the installation places the projects and files. Bud, Pay attention to the section in my article about updating paths. When you restore your project on a new computer there are many references to paths that existed on your old one. Even if you use the default paths, there are often subtle differences in the paths between you old and new computer that can cause major headaches if not addressed. Terry
Others have given some useful suggestions for getting TMG going on Windows 10. I'll just point out that for those who aren't ready to move to Windows 10, some manufacturers are still offering Windows 7. I recently bought a Fujitsu laptop with Windows 7 and the option of free upgrade to 10. As a person more interested in getting my work done than in learning new operating system after new operating system, I like to stick with any OS that has proven to be pretty good until I feel there is another good (or unavoidable) new OS. The Seattle TMG Users Group meets Saturday, October, 10, 2:00-4:30 p.m., at Aljoya Thornton Place, 450 NE 100th St., near Northgate Mall. The topic is month is "TMG and DNA." We'll first look at the QuickSheet by Elizabeth Shown Mills, "Citing Genetic Sources for History Research." Bud, Putting TMG on a new PC is not hard, but there are some subtleties and it's best to know about them before you begin. Terry Reigel wrote an article about the process and I recommend that you read it. http://tmg.reigelridge.com/new-computer-version.htm John
Hi Bud, You can simply install TMG on your new computer and use the key and other (name and email address) information from when you purchased TMG to register it. Then copy all the files in your TMG directory to your new computer. This might be easier on you if you copy these files to the same locations as they were in your old computer. Copying can be done by a thumb drive, a cloud service like DropBox or using your local network. Note that Windows 7 *Professional Edition* is still being offered and thus does not yet have an expiration date for support. It costs more than the Home edition (which is no longer sold), but it would be the one to buy if you just don't want to change yet. (There are/were other editions; I don't know, other than the above, which are still being sold officially.) I purchased and am actively using a Windows 10 desktop with TMG 9.05 as well as MS Office 2010 which includes Word 2010, Excel 2010, Outlook 2010, Power Point 2010 and Publisher 2010 etc. TMG 9,05 and Word 2010 are working very satisfactorily together. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judi Baumgarner via" <tmg@rootsweb.com> To: "TMG" <TMG@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 3, 2015 9:26:39 AM Subject: [TMG] Windows 10, TMG, and MS Word I'm in the process of buying a new Win 10 laptop and have been advised that I should not use older versions of MS Word and should install the new Word 2016. Thanks Karla, for your input. I have made an interim tag & source so at least it is recorded. This is what I created, a very simple lumper for use with other years in the address tag group. [P] <was|and [PO] were>listed <on the [D]> Valuation Roll <at [L]>. <[M]> My sentence reading. Robert Wilkie was listed on the 1855 Valuation Roll at 258 Argyle Street, Glasgow, LKS, Scotland. He tenanted and occupied a shop owned by Alexander Broom's Trustees per D. (David) Keltie of 43 Maitland Street. The umbrella shop incurred a yearly rent and value of 38/-. As I only have two items so far, this will do the trick ATM. Kay

Older versions of Office should work fine. I have Office 13 and all (including Access) are working fine in Win10. Reports output to Word work fine. I expect Office 03 will also work. You can open older versions of Word in later versions. Some macros may no longer work in updated Word, but the basic document will be alright, in my experience Bob On 10/3/2015 12:26 PM, Judi Baumgarner via wrote: > I'm in the process of buying a new Win 10 laptop and have been advised that I should not use older versions of MS Word and should install the new Word 2016. > I'm still happily using TMG 9.05 and Word 2003 on my current Win 7 machine. Thanks for the information but it didn't work for me. Following your instructions I found the file on my computer as you said, but it won't run 'repair' for my upgraded v9.05. My TMG v9.04 was loaded from a disk and the upgrade was an automatic download from the TMG 'Help' menu 'check for updates'. Today I downloaded v9setup.exe at: http://www.whollygenes.com/upgrades.htm#tmggold When you "run" the v9setup.exe file it opens a window; click "next"; and on that window you have three choices: Modify, Repair, and Remove. I ran the repair file successfully this way on my upgraded version of TMG v9.05. I saved the file on my computer where I can find and run it again when I need to. Hi I remember this problem was discussed some years back. When starting TMG (v9.05/Win7) the Retrieving Messages function is becoming slower and slower and seems to take an eternity. Is there something I can do to speed things up, or remove it completely? With thanks Garry F Bell Auckland, NZ
