    3. All anti virus is disabled. No other programs running. I restored an older data set - had to go back several - that exports successfully. So I then added back several sources and tags and tried export again. I tried several times and have noted the size of the GED file is tiny after adding back four sources and 8 tags. In fact this time it was only 1kb versus 5103 kb. So I exited TMG and tried exporting the changed older dataset again. Still with all virus disabled. This time GED file was 5105 and it imported. I had to go back about 3 months to get one that works. I could understand glitch on one computer but not on two separate computers and different data sets. We are both hesitate to move forward but really dislike all other programs and especially don't want to lose second site website. I was afraid it wouldn't be long after Bob closed down. Discouraging after the thousands of hours of careful data entry. 3. TC - When you are creating a GEDCOM, make sure other programs - especially McAfee - are not running, and you are not syncing with a cloud service like Dropbox. There have been many reports on the WG forum of incomplete GEDCOMs related to other programs running at the same time. Virginia On Wed, Oct 21, 2015 at 3:00 PM, Michael J. 3. I have no data in the Type Box (upper right in Person Display) and cannot figure out why.  I've looked in Help and Preferences but no clues.  I especially liked the "Age" displayed here to know at a glance the age of the person highlighted in the Person display.  Anyone know what is missing?  I'm sure it is one of those simple little things. Just to check, in Preferences // Program Options // Lists, check the option "Show vertical lines" and "Show Horizontal lines". I find it easier to see what is going on in the boxes with the lines turned on. Now in the Type area, do you have a vertical line between the Type heading and the Value heading? (Do you even see a Value heading?) If you don't see a Value heading, then you either have the width of the entire Type box in your layout too narrow, or you have expanded the width of the Type column to the width of the Type box by dragging the divider line between the two columns too far to the right. In either case there is no room to show the Values column of the fields. Could this be the issue? Michael

Once I unchecked the "offending" columns, > and saved the layout, they're gone... V9 does make it easier with its Right-click menu, but these options can all also still be set in Preferences as they always could. Preferences // Program Options // Tag Box Just check or uncheck the appropriate columns as desired. But as these are part of the layout, be sure to save the new layout. Hope this gives you ideas, Michael

    3. Ron noticed: > Until a couple of days ago I was receiving a warning sound > (bell like ding) when I deleted citations, primary tags, etc. > For some reason the sound is no longer there. Sound is not muted. There are two possible issues, Ron, one in TMG and one in Windows. First, check your TMG Preferences // Program Options // Warnings Perhaps you have "turned off" some of the warnings you have been expecting. Second, since you have verified that sound is not muted, check the Windows "Sound" settings for its "Default Beep". (Where you do that depends upon your version of Windows.) That is the Windows sound which TMG uses for warnings like you have mentioned. Perhaps you have disabled that specific sound in Windows? Hope this gives you ideas, Michael

Click in the Type area and then RIGHT-click and choose the menu item: "Customize 'Other Info' box ... Then select the field you want to show and "Enable" it. Another possibility is that you have selected more items than will show in the height of this Type box in your current layout. You may need either to scroll down when viewing, or to "Customize" and move to the top those fields you most wish to see. Hope this gives you ideas, Michael

    3. I find that it pays to do *nothing* else on the computer while TMG is exporting a GEDCOM file. Every now and then, if I violate this rule, I find an incomplete GEDCOM being exported. I don't recall them being actually corrupted, so that they wouldn't import to another program, so this may have nothing at all to do with your problem. In my case the export process takes on the order of 15 minutes or so. 3. TC Cottrell observed: > ... We have the last and latest version of TMG installed... > the GED files appear to export without error. However, they will not > import into any program... I get errors that the file is incomplete... This is almost always a factor of what folder is specified for where the GEDCOM file is to be created. The two most common problems with the folder are: - this folder is not on your main hard drive, but on a removable media - this folder is included as a folder for automatic background backup by some backup program like Dropbox, or Cloud, etc. So the first suggestion is to ensure that the folder being used does not have either of the above conditions. Either will interfere with the creation of the file and can cause it to halt without being complete. A GEDCOM file is simply a text file, so you can check whether the file is complete by opening it with any text editing program, like Notepad or Wordpad. The very last line in the file should be: 0 TRLR If it is not, then the file is incomplete. Hope this gives you ideas, Michael

We have the last and latest version of TMG installed on two computers (my wife's and mine) with separate datasets (hers and mine). Last time, several months ago, when I created GED files from each dataset to upload into ipad genealogy programs all was fine. Today, the GED files appear to export without error. However, they will not import into any program, including back into TMG. I get errors that the file is incomplete, or similar error messages depending on importing program. I tried just exporting GED for single individual (me) from my dataset and that one imported fine. This is two computers, completely separate, two datasets, completely separate, two copies of TMG completely separate, both failing to properly export GED. I tried various settings in export to include GED 4.0, all with same effect. Obviously now I'm panicky because it seems the option to export data and move to another program may be gone. Any suggestions. By the way the dataset seems OK as John Cardinal's Second Site is still exporting to our websites without error and all seems fine in that area. And yes, I've run maintenance more than once on both computers and also tried importing the GED files into several different applications all with the same failure results, so it definitely is an incomplete or errored GED file that both TMG copies are producing. The photo is in the correct folder; shows up fine in the image window; when I click on "exhibits," the photo appears in the same way as all my other ones; the file size is similar to all my other exhibits; and the .jpg itself opens perfectly in two different photo programs. Any suggestions as to what I should look for? Thanks in advance, Judy Madnick

I had been trying to "hide" several columns by making them ultra-narrow, like we used to do. Once I unchecked the "offending" columns, and saved the layout, they're gone. Problem solved.
