    1. Re: [TMG] Printer not activated
    2. Tami Dolan via
    3. Teresa, Did you ever get this worked out? I'm having the same problem. I have tried uninstalling the printer and the driver. Opened the program with "run as administrator" can print to PDF fine. Opened the program normally (not as admin) get "printer not activated" error message. Closed out of program. Reopened with run as admin, told it to install the PDF printer, and printed fine. Closed program. Went in again normally, not as admin, but still get "printer not activated" error message. I'm running on Windows 10, 64 bit. Has anyone gotten this to work? I'm especially concerned about it since there will be no further updates to TMG. I suggest you review the specified paths as described in my article at http://tmg.reigelridge.com/new-computer-version.htm#paths Do not depend on visually reviewing the paths. 1. [TMG] Cannot make Backup
    2. Ron Johnson via
    3. I am using 9.04. A new problem has cropped up after changing computers. If I try to backup a project, near the end of the process I get a box with this message: "Input file read failure. This error occurs when a file read operation is performed on a zip file that is locked or restricted by another process." I hit ok, the backup process continues and reports complete, but no backup file is created. I created a new one person project, no problem, a backup file was created. So, I tried backing up the sample project and was unable to create a backup. I did with and without customizations and I received the same notes. I have no idea how to proceed. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Ron

Sound is not muted. There are two possible issues, Ron, one in TMG and one in Windows. First, check your TMG Preferences // Program Options // Warnings Perhaps you have "turned off" some of the warnings you have been expecting. Second, since you have verified that sound is not muted, check the Windows "Sound" settings for its "Default Beep". (Where you do that depends upon your version of Windows.) That is the Windows sound which TMG uses for warnings like you have mentioned. Perhaps you have disabled that specific sound in Windows? Another possibility is that you have selected more items than will show in the height of this Type box in your current layout.  You may need either to scroll down when viewing, or to "Customize" and move to the top those fields you most wish to see. 3. Good news I think. In the for what it is worth department the change happened between 26 July 2015 and 1 August 2015. Something changed either with an update or different way of handling files. I created a folder on root drive that is backed up by nothing. Turned off all virus and firewall and exported latest data set to GED successfully. Thank you Lord. I have been using default TMG export folder for years with all TMG folders backed up with carbonate with no issues. So like I said something changed between those two dates referenced above. Thank you all for your suggestions. To summarize - root drive, no backup set, no antivirus or firewall during GED export. Any of three hoses GED on our tow computers both high end systems. TC, Also, it appears that having a cloud backup system working on the folders where your TMG data (or that of any other database program) is stored risks corrupting your Project files. The best advice seems to be to exclude your TMG Project files from the automatic backup, and after you make backups in TMG, copy those backups to a folder that is backed up by the cloud system. Do not make your TMG backups directly into a folder being backed up by your cloud system, or you risk having those backups being corrupted. I was afraid it wouldn't be long after Bob closed down. Discouraging after the thousands of hours of careful data entry. There is no reason to panic. Many of us continue to use TMG with no issues. The problems with GEDCOMs when a cloud backup system is in use is well known and has been around for years -- since they came into use. You will find many reports of it in the archives of this list and the WG Forum. Terry Reigel
