I apparently did something wrong today while sending files to one drive. I cannot open tmg. I have windows 8.1 and version9.5. well I used to. When I open tmg I get the repair mode window. When the program starts - my last project is not highlighted. All the other options - sample, restore etc are. I went to restore and then tried to restore my last sqz file. I keep getting the message that someone else is using the program. I had uninstalled and reinstalled TMG from the setup file. I am flummoxed! gypsy
I'm running TMG 9 Gold under Windows 10. I have had all sorts of problems with Windows 10 (the 'Critical Error' issue), which now seem to be resolved, but TMG itself works well. However, every week or so TMG 'forgets' that I am running a registered version and asks for my licence key. When I enter it all is well, and it 'remembers' the registration for another week or so, but then 'forgets' again. Is this a known problem? Is there a solution? _______________________ Stuart Park Kerikeri, New Zealand <mailto:spark@xtra.co.nz> spark@xtra.co.nz Visit my Glass blog at <http://newzealandglass.blogspot.com/> http://newzealandglass.blogspot.co.nz/

Stuart, Yes, it's a know issue with Windows 8 and Windows 10. See http://tmg.reigelridge.com/new-computer-version.htm#unlock for the solution. Terry Reigel
Terry The folder is read only (I then changed that attribute - but it made no difference, same outcome). I don't see how read-only could affect a zip operation. Ed Glad it is working for you. I assume that you are also using the latest versions of TMG (9.05) and SS (5.3, build 2). Tom
I just performed that Zip operation with a newly installed Win 10 and it went much faster then with Win 7. The upload to my website worked fine. BW No hidden folders but apparently one hidden file in -o. No hidden files or folders in exhibits folder. Has anyone tried to create a zip folder of a Second Site in Windows 10? Tom

I'd be suspicious of something interfering with the ZIP process, like a cloud backup system. Terry Reigel
Terry No cloud backup or any other backup running. Turned off antivirus (AVG) program. Still the same results. Exact message is: "Windows was unable to add one or more empty directories to the compressed (Zipped) folder" The only folder is the exhibits folder, which in my case is empty. But selecting only the files in the -o folder (leaving out the exhibit folder) produces the same results. It does produce a Zip folder but as I described no themes and page links are often broken, size of the Zip file also varies from try to try. Tom
Running: Second Site 5.3 build 2 TMG 9.05 Windows 10 I have created a second site that I like and would like to share with a cousin. I copied all the files from the -o folder (per John Cardinal's instructions) and copy them to a thumb drive. They work fine. But I would like to send the site to my cousin via email and a zip file. If I select all the files (using windows explorer) in my -o folder and right click, selecting send to Compressed (zipped) folder I get an error and the zipping stops (not always the same error, not always the same spot in the process). While the number of files and the total size of the files appears correct my 'theme' is lost and the .htm pages are plain Jane. Does anyone know how to get the site files in the -o folder into a zipped file? Tom Fulton

John has described another solution - make the reference conditional so the name can be omitted without the "unknown person" phrase. There is a third, which allows the name to be included without including the person in the site. You can change the settings in the Data > People section. On the "Show when Witness to Event" line, check the box(es) so that Excluded people are shown. Note that this solution applies to everyone, not just this one Tag, so be aware of possible unintended consequences for other Tags. Terry Reigel

You can improve your results by using conditional references. So, for example, change: [R:Guardian] was appointed guardian for [R:Ward] on [D] at [L] ... to: [R:Guardian] was appointed guardian <for [R:Ward]><on [D]><at [L]> That will avoid having "unknown person", "unknown date", and "unknown location" when one or more of the data items are not specified. John
I have long used a filter to find non-primary marriage tags on GEDCOMs received from others, but have been lax on running it against my own large project. Was surprised to find a couple dozen non-primary tags......easy fixes, though I did turn up five "remarriages" for couples that married, divorced, then re-married later on. That prompted me to add the comment "remarriage" into the memo for those marriage tags.....should note that the second marriage of the same couple will not be "primary", since there can only be one primary marriage for a specific couple. Dave Ball
After writing my message last night I was falling asleep and suddenly realized that I had not set the flag for any of the three witnesses (R:Ward) in my project. Problem solved - if you want a complete sentence you must included the witnesses in the data or Second Site will not be able to reference them and thus produce the dreaded "an unknown person" Tom
Sorry for the slow response--travelling. When I reviewed the changes a long time ago it did not seem to be a high priority, so it had gone on the "rainy day" pile. Taking a quick look a couple minutes ago I didn't find it. So, that will have to be another project. My research has gone "dormant" for about two years and I am now ramping up again. I am having a problem with a sentence in second site and cannot figure out what I am doing incorrectly. I am Using: TMG v 9.05 Second Site v 5.3 build 2 Windows 10 All of the following sentences and previews or resulting sentences are copy and paste! I have created (or modified?) a tag type Guardianship with the following sentences. *Tag Type Definition* - Roles and sentences (all male sentence structures - no female sentence structures) Principal [P] was appointed guardian for [R:Ward] on [D] at [L] Witness [P] was appointed guardian for [S] on [D] at [L] Guardian [R:Guardian] was appointed guardian for [R:Ward] on [D] at [L] Ward [R:Guardian] was appointed guardian for [S] on [D] at [L] *Tag Type List* *Window* (prior to editing a Tag Type) shows the following Sentence [P] was appointed guardian for [R:Ward] on [D] at [L] Witness sentence [P] was appointed guardian for [S] on [D] at [L] *Tag Entry Screen - sentence structure previews* [R:Guardian] was appointed guardian for [R:Ward] on [D] at [L] (for the principal) producing for role P1:Guardian Walter Gray was appointed guardian for Margaret Gray, William H Gray and Andrew H Gray on 25 Feb 1848 at Livingston County Surrogate Court, Geneseo, Livingston County, New York. [R:Guardian] was appointed guardian for [S] on [D] at [L] (for the witnesses - yes all three have the same sentence) producing for role Ward(s) Walter Gray was appointed guardian for Margaret Gray on 25 Feb 1848 at Livingston County Surrogate Court, Geneseo, Livingston County, New York. Walter Gray was appointed guardian for William H Gray on 25 Feb 1848 at Livingston County Surrogate Court, Geneseo, Livingston County, New York. Walter Gray was appointed guardian for Andrew H Gray on 25 Feb 1848 at Livingston County Surrogate Court, Geneseo, Livingston County, New York. The TAG has one principal assigned R:Guardian and three witnesses, all assigned R:Ward. There are no other persons in the tag. Now for the problem. *Second Site sentence* He was appointed guardian for _an unknown person_ on 25 February 1848 at Geneseo, Livingston County, New York; Livingston County Surrogate Court However an Individual Narrative for the principal produces the following. *Individual Narrative of Walter Gray* Walter GRAY was appointed guardian for Margaret GRAY, William H GRAY and Andrew H GRAY on 25 Feb 1848 at Livingston County Surrogate Court, Geneseo, Livingston County, New York Any advice on why the Second Site sentence is producing "an unknown person" rather than the three witnesses (R:Ward). Yes, that will also work, as it obeys the concept I mentioned that "whenever you add a new Marriage tag, always link both Principals as part of the creation of that tag." Your procedure will ensure that, *if* you accept the prompt and add the new Marriage tag at that point. > I don't know off hand why I have a considerable number of > asymmetric marriage tags, but I did start with TMG 5 (or > maybe 4?) so there's been lots of scope for strange things > to happen! Well there are several rather common ways to link a new spouse to a Marriage group tag. Prior to Version 8.05 some of them did not set this tag as Primary for the newly assigned spouse, even if that new spouse had no other tags in the Marriage group. Thankfully as of Version 8.05 TMG catches "most" of these and marks the tag Primary for that spouse. Michael
Al - You select the divorce option on the Data Types tab in VCF. There are several steps - how you want the info formatted, etc. - so you will want to consult Help on that tab. Also see Terry and Robin's tips here: http://tmg.reigelridge.com/Charts-Settings.htm and in the VCF forum here: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?/topic/12955-the-data-types-option Virginia On Mon, Oct 26, 2015 at 2:13 PM, Al MacIlroy via <tmg@rootsweb.com> wrote: > How do you add a divorce date to the tree print-outs? > > Does it expand all the boxes or just the one with the divorce date and that > generation? > > FYI - so far no problems with my Windows 10 update on my Sony Vaio laptop. > > Al > > The TMG archive is found here: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/TMG/ > Instructions on how to subscribe to TMG: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Software/TMG.html > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TMG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
At 10/26/2015 14:13, you wrote: >How do you add a divorce date to the tree print-outs? In the Report Definition Screen=>[Options] window, click on the Data Types tab, select the Box Type that contains the Marriage lines, and click on the next available line (probably [7], [8], or [9]) and add the desired Divorce Tag Type. You may want just the date, or date and place tag types, or more. >Does it expand all the boxes or just the one with the divorce date and that >generation? If there is no data for any line, the box compresses to fit just the data available. Thus, if there is no divorce, the line(s) don't print and no extra space appears. Lee
