    1. [TMG] Bio-Dau tag sort problem
    2. Sydney
    3. Hi List This is driving me NUTS!  I can't figure out why I have a Dau-Bio tag that stays sorted in the detail screens of her parents at the top.  It looks fine on the daughter's detail screen (sorts correctly before her death in 1813), but when I go to the parents, it does not sort properly. The daughter's birth is entered with a date as 31 Sep 1804 with the sort date entered the same way.  On the parent screens, the birth comes up at the top- so her birth is before the father's birth on 09 Apr 1777 on his screen, and similarly on the mother's screen it shows this birth in 1804 before the mother's birth in 1783. Any ideas what the cause could be and a fix?  I've run the file maintenance over & over- & restarted the computer to no avail.  I'm a little under the weather, so maybe I did something stupid- but what?  There's no problem with the other siblings. Would appreciate any help- Thanks, Sydney Delfs

    1. [TMG] Slow Project
    2. Tom Coughlan
    3. My apologies if similar questions have already been answered on this forum but I am puzzled by something. My main project contains about 6,500 people, and over 1,000 external exhibits. It works a treat, with almost instant response to all actions - edit, filter, etc. I have another small project, of about 370 people (about 450 names) and only 50 external exhibits. On this project everything is slow - when I ok after an edit it takes a couple of seconds at least to respond. Updating the people explorer after adding a person takes a long time. Selecting a letter from the index on the project explorer again leads to a long delay. I've optimised, reindexed and checked file integrity many times. There are no problems highlighted. Is this something others have encountered and overcome? If so, any suggestions would be welcome. Tom Coughlan

    3. Tom, In addition to John's questions, is there anything different about the display attributes of the two projects (one slow, one fast)? Is the slow one using people Accent colors which are not based on Flags? Does the slow one have the Project Explorer filtered and also linked to other windows? Michael

    1. Re: [TMG] Slow Project
    2. John Cardinal
    3. Tom, Are the two TMG projects (one slow, one fast) located on the same disk drive? If a TMG project is located on a network drive, that slows things down. I haven't done that in a while, and I don't recall the details, but I do remember TMG was slower. Also, using a network path for a folder that is on a locally-attached drive will also incur some of the network overhead. If the project includes references to exhibits that are stored on a network drive, or to exhibits that don't exist, that will also slow things done. Check the Project preferences and look for any network paths. John

    1. [TMG] Duplicate Primary Parents
    2. Andrew Clark
    3. Second Site reports to me that person #6799 has two primary parents. When I go to #6799 everything seems OK. However when I click on the father (only) he has the same daughter twice with identical #6799. Before I go charging in and doing something potentially incorrect I thought I might just check for hints and tips please Andrew Clark

    1. Re: [TMG] Duplicate Primary Parents
    2. John Cardinal
    3. Andrew, See the SS FAQ entry for this topic: http://ss.johncardinal.com/faq.htm#multprim The basic approach described there is to go to the child's record in TMG and toggle the primary father (or mother, as the case may be) to off. When you do that, the current version of the link to the father will become non-primary, and will drop down into the tag list. That will allow you to see the other primary record. From there, you can review the two records and decide which you want to be primary, which you want to delete, etc. John

    3. Today I started Check File Integrity on my TMG 9.5. Windows 10. TMG started and came to 1% and nothing further happened. I tried several restores up to 2015 and the same thing happened. I looked at Bitdefender, but nothing special was showed. I do not believe that I have not checked the files in between. So I think something else is the origin; should I reinstall TMG? Does someone have an idee what can make my troubles? Regards, Harm Buiter

After selecting File=>Maintenance=>Validate File Integrity (VFI), TMG should state that the process may take several minutes and ask if you wish to continue. If you answer [Yes], the progress bar should display indicating about 1%. This appears to be where you are. Do you have External Exhibits? If so, the Validate File Integrity-External Exhibits window will also display (maybe in the upper left of the screen). You will need to respond to that window by sleecting if you want to search for missing Exhibits (and specifying in which folder to search), and clicking on the [OK] button of that window. Then the VFI process will continue. Lee

    3. Hi I have just proved that even today with no further updates to TMG, it is still the ONLY program out there. I have always used TMG for my major database, and then once a month, via the use of Flags, take those updated people and then merge them to my FTM2017 file so that it can then sync to Ancestry. Thank goodness I have never taken it out of TMG. But just recently I started to make a few very small family trees of my cousin's families etc, all due to DNA and Ancestry trees. First error was that TMG cannot accept the UFT-8 unicode - overcame that by re reading Dorothy's workaround in the help file of TMG So the import of the 187 people went well after changing from Unicode to Anis. But what a mess - so now editing each person in TMG before I can then sent to word as journal report. I created a new project for this family. Even though this family was set up as not intending to be put into a booklet format - its purpose has completely turned around. I am unsure -- are you using the List of People report or the List of Names report? Also, what do you have for the [Options...] window Output Columns tab for the report? Most of my List of People report Output Columns have something like: Column Type Heading Name Group* tag; Last, Given Names Name ID Number ID Number Birth Group* tag; Date Birth Date Death Group* tag; Date Death Date Sort varies for the purpose of the report, but usually it is set as 1 for the ID Number or for the Name column. Occasionally I will sort by Birth Date (1) and Name (2), or some other combination. A lot of what you report sounds like you have sent the report to a spreadsheet and have re-sorted the report in the spreadsheet but have not included _all_ columns in the sort. Accents _should_ not affect the List of People report. Lee

Hi DeAnne, I suspect? that the accent color is the issue. However, you didn't supply enough information to make a guess as to either what caused the problem, or what might be done to correct it. What version of TMG are you using? What operating system is your computer? What type of report is it: List of People, or List of Names, or are you seeing this on both? What is the "Report Destination" File type for your report(s), or are you using Screen Preview? If you generate a report file what program are you using to then read that file? All of this is needed to help diagnose your issue. Michael
