    1. [TMG] Re: Pros and cons of four seperate databases?
    2. John Cardinal
    3. Kurt, Why is your site unmanageable? Splitting your project into pieces will increase some of the maintenance (source templates, event definitions), and if the same person appears in more than one line, you'll have that duplication as well. I recommend that you stick with one project and solve whatever issue is making the site unmanageable. John -----Original Message----- From: Morsø Anecentral <[email protected]> My entire project for my family is becoming unimaginable. I therefore consider the pros and cons of splitting up a branch for each of my grandparents. However, overlaps occur, so if you think it's a good idea, how do you handle these coincidences?

The one big issue you may run into is that TMG has no way to output a PDF exhibit, it isn't the sort of file TMG can handle. (Second Site can add a link to the PDF as an external file), and TMG will warn you about this. TMG can only include images or simple text exhibits in its reports. If the PDF is short (a single image, etc) you may get better results converting it to an image (or basic text) and attaching that (text will lose the formatting) -- Richard Damon

    3. I need to delete about 18000 people from my project. Apparently it is not possible to delete many people at a time without deleting the linking between them. Also ,I can`t follow Terry`s deleting instructions moving them over to another dataset since my project is so large that the cdx will exceed the 2GB limit. Any way of deleting the links between those about 18000 people and then delete them through Project explorer or focusgroup? I have flagged and accented all the about 18000 people. Have them in the focus group just now ,but don`t know what to do to delete them without manually deleting the link between them!.

Probably the most used methods are based on the List of People report and its Secondary Output feature. You first identify the persons to be split out. There are three ways to do this: 1. Select and highlight the persons in the Project Explorer. 2. Create a Focus Group of the persons. 3. Create a Filtered Group in the List of People report. Once you have that, open the List of People report Definition Screen, and select that option as the Subject(s) of the report. If you want a listing of the persons selected, choose the Report Destination. Click on the [Options...] button to open that window. Make any desired selected here being sure to click on the Secondary Output tab, and selecting the Create New Project option entering the desired location and name for the new project. I keep all my projects in sub-folders of the User Data Files Projects folder -- one project to a sub-folder. As long as each project has a unique name, you can keep multiple project in a single folder. But, I prefer to keep them separate in case I want to store other files related to that project "with" the project. Having separate folders for each project also helps _me_ keep them separate mentally as well as facilitate any file management issues I might have. At this point, all that is left is to clicke on the [Options] window [OK] button, and then click on the [Create Report] button of the List of People Report Definition Screen. When it completes, your new project files will be where you selected in the Secondary Output. Once the new project is complete, the old project remains as it was. So the last step is the removal of the persons split out. There are two ways to do this. One is to create a new project that is essentially the reverse of what you just did above. This is probably the easiest way although creating Focus Groups or Filter Groups is usually more complex than just the small group split. 3. TMG-L subscribers, It's nice to have TMG-L back! There have been a few updates while Rootsweb lists were down: 1 - Second Site 6.04 was released on February 23rd. There will be another release soon, probably Monday, March 12. Version 6.04 has a couple important changes related to secure (HTTPS) sites. See: https://goo.gl/BEXjin 2 - My web hosting company, Family History Hosting, now offers special "Archive" hosting plans designed to keep your project online for an extended time. See: https://goo.gl/kWckNv 3 - GedSite, a web site builder for GEDCOM files, now reads TMG projects directly. That avoids using GEDCOM files written by TMG with GedSite. Second Site is still the best choice for creating web sites from TMG data, but depending on your needs, you may be interested in GedSite. See: https://goo.gl/Na4Cbn It's winter in the northern hemisphere, and it's been stormy where I live. Luckily, spring is right around the corner! John

    3. Good thought, Marc -- I did actually think of that earlier, but forgot about it when I sent the last email.  If no success in other ways, I'll look more closely at that -- should be fairly easy for me, as I do not use sentences, just have to insert the dummy sentence in each role for the 2 new tags. Lindsay ----------Original message---------- From: Marc Erlitz <[email protected]> To: The Master Genealogist Rootsweb Email List <[email protected]> Cc: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Date: 24/1/18 00:12 Subject: Re: [TMG] Disappearing role sentences > Lindsay , > > Why not create 2 new tag types, say Court2 and Image2? Recreate all the sentences you have previously defined for these tags. Then use TMG Utilities to change all instances of Court and Image to the new tag types. When all is done, delete the original tag types and then rename the new ones back to their original names.
