There is a certain minimum that TMG pretty much requires as some dialog boxes are not resizable. I run TMG in a 1457x954 window (I have a monitor that is 1920x1200). However... I presume the top/title bar for TMG is visible on your screen, and that it is the bottom and right side that are off-screen. DRAG the title bar down and to the right (yes, this sounds like I'm making things worse). THEN hover over the top/left corner until you get a resize \ arrow. Now drag that corner even more down and to the right. Move about a quarter of the screen. This action will make the total window smaller. Now drag the title bar up and to the left. If you reduced the window size enough, you will eventually be able to see the bottom/right corner. You can now adjust all the sides to you preferences. Adjust the inner windows as needed. FINALLY -- SAVE the layout as your default layout; that should mean TMG resets to those positions when next loaded. >________________________________ >From: [email protected] <[email protected]> >Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2018 9:02 AM >To: [email protected] >Subject: TMG Digest, Vol 13, Issue 47 > >Send TMG mailing list submissions to > [email protected] If you are replying to a DIGEST message -- Please trim anything that is not pertinent to your reply. 3. I use TMG v.9.05 in Windows 10. I was ready to do an Indented Descendent Narrative Report. But I'm getting a box saying the folder c:\Users\Brian\Documents\The Master Genealogist v. 9_output does not exist. I have had a crash but I thought I had reassembled everything. I am able to input information for example. What do I need to do? Brian Cole

    3. Danielle, If you were not using TMG v9.05, I was going to recommend that you update. I have not encountered the problem you described, so I don't have any specific advice for you. I find that using the File > Maintenance > Optimize command solves problems that are caused by bad index entries, and that might apply here. Using VFI is a good idea, too. If you have done both of those, then I am not sure what else to suggest. Note that File > Maintenance > Optimize is more thorough at rebuilding the indexes than File > Maintenance > Reindex. Use Optimize. John

    3. Hi I am sure this has been answered before but can't find where it is listed. My 9.5 version suddenly started to ask for activation details, I cut and pasted my serial number from the trouble report and confirmed my email address as the same as on the report. Only open as it should and just says I have an expired trial version. I have also tried to activate using administration rights but same result. I would be grateful for any fix for this. Then you can copy that flag back into creating a focus group, with everyone who was there before who wasn't currently marked living. -- Richard Damon

    3. Terry, Sorry, I wrote in haste and without going into the details of what it is I usually do. What I really had in mind was first filtering the Project Explorer, and then adding all the resulting names to a Focus Group. I do this regularly, and the filter includes a test on the Living Flag as well as other conditions. The purpose is, in part, to create a gedcom without living people. John, Because there is no provision in Focus Groups for filtering based on flags or anything else. Terry Reigel

    3. Robert, Maybe I'm missing something, but why isn't your Focus Group including a filter on the Living flag to exclude living people? 3. Michael, Lee, Terry, Thanks for the ideas, but I'd been hoping there was a way to use the living flag with the focus group to have TMG not generate living people at all.  I've got about 500 living descendants and spouses to delete or edit and both methods seem prone to making mistakes and are time consuming.  I may mull this one over for awhile. You could, but I think you would have to do it one-by-one, which would be much more tedious I think than removing their names from the FG. This can be one at a time or hold the Shift key down and click on each person to be deleted. When all have been selected, click on the [Remove Selected] button. >If not, can I edit the gedcom to either >eliminate them or change their names to "Private?" This is another option. It is a bit more tedious than just removing them altogether, but this allow the reader to see that persons exist, their gender, and any other information that might be left. I prefer this even with the extra work. But, this may depend on how many of these you have. Be sure to edit the GEDCOM in a text editor (such as the NOTEPAD editor of Windows) or if you use a word processor, be sure to save the changes as a text-only file with the .GED file extension. Lee

    1. [TMG] Re: A manual for TMG 9?
    2. Kurt, First, a "paper" reference manual was discontinued when additional effort was put into the HELP system which comes with the program. Contrary to many programs I think it really is very good, and should be your first place to look. As others have said, Terry's Tips is an excellent beginning tutorial, and is especially a good place to look when starting to use a TMG feature you haven't used before. Finally, if you get really deep into customizing TMG and want some advanced discussions about how to do non-standard things, see my on-line book: https://www.mjh-nm.net/#MyWay
