    3. Joan, It is far better to create your Relationship charts in RTF format (which Word can understand) and then use Word to save them as DOCX or PDF or whatever. The Relationship Chart doesn't 'need' PDF format - it can be produced in whatever formats you allow under the TMG Preferences, Reports. I understand that TMG's Relationship Chart needs to have its PDF printer installed in order to format that report. So Dennis's advice to print to Word and then to convert to PDF doesn't apply to my situation. Could you tell me how to get TMG's PDF printer to be available to it under Windows 10 so I can print a Relationship Chart? I often need to do that. If not TMG's PDF printer, is there a work around? I'm new to Windows 10 and I haven't learned its tricks yet, but I'm trying. However, having TMG generate an RTF file which (for me) opens in Word produced a usable report (what a convoluted usage of word processor TABLE). That advice would be usable with any report that is trash when using the WORD format -- try it with RTF format.

Strangely, the Quicken PDF printer driver hasn't caused any problems to my knowledge, and it too is contracted from Amyuni [Amyuni Document Converter 500, where TMG is 400]. Most (if not all) versions of Win10 have their own PDF "printer". It may not be activated initially -- if it isn't, you'd use control panel (right-click Windows icon, Run "Control", Programs, Turn Windows Features On or Off, [X] Microsoft Print to PDF). Using the "Print to PDF" driver requires selecting it as the printer in TMG -- do not select report destination option PDF. For text reports, my best results come from sending to a word processor (Office Word -- recent edition; Office added the ability to /export/ [not print] to PDF format, which bypasses even the "Print to PDF" driver). VCF it more problematic. Unfortunately, the largest page size I can select is Tabloid... No option for custom page sizes. And I had to set the "Print to PDF" as Windows default, otherwise VCF page setup was pulling options from my HP inkjet (normal default) -- and that formatted the pages with its largest (legal) even if I then set printer preferences for tabloid (result: only top/left side of tabloid page had data; setting "Print to PDF" as default, and then picking tabloid is Page Setup made full use of the tabloid size). As mentioned, I've not succeeded wit the Amyuni/WG PDF driver in decades (It may even be that it hasn't worked since Win98SE for me). If it means anything, I also have a licensed copy of Corel PDF Fusion -- and ITS PDF printer doesn't seem to be saving PDF files anywhere (but doesn't error out as the Amyuni printer does). The PDF Fusion /editing/ module works (allowing reordering pages in and between multiple PDF files).

I assume that you mean that the Exhibits ate in the TMG Exhibit Log. But, saying that doesn't tell whether an Exhibit is an Internal or External Exhibit. An easy way to know is to open the Exhibit Log, left-click on an Exhibt to highlight it. In the lower right, above the [Properties] button, is an information window which has something like: 7 (External) , (1-10) / 390 Person 1:1418 or 12 (Internal) , (11-20) /390 Person 1:21514 Another method is to right-click on the Exhibit in the Exhibit Log and select the Properties menu item. This will show a fielsd on the left of the window that indicated whether the Exhibit is Internal or External An External Exhibit is actually stored elsewhere than in the TMG files. You may have John Doe's picture saved somethere on your computer as a JPG, GIF, TIF or other image format. You can attach that file as an External Exhibit within TMG, but the file remains the same on the computer. What is actually stored within TMG is a link telling where to find John Doe's picture. On the other hand, as you attach a new Exhibit, you can tell TMG to make it an Internal Exhibit. In such a case, TMG will "copy" John Doe's picture into TMG and any connection to the file on your computer is lost. There are advantages to both External and Internal Exhibits. Exhibit files generally are large and thus can increase the size of a project. This is most notable in the TMG Backups where External Exhibits can be included or not and thus making a significant difference in the size of the resulting backup SQZ file. TMG users with projects having few Exhibits don't need to be concerned about the aize of the TMG files or the Backup file. However, we tend to add Exhibits often and that can make a difference. For this reason, it is recommended that TMG users add Exhibits as External rather than Internal. The may betime when you want a specific Exhibit to be Internal. That is okay. Most of us have a mix with most being External. Having said that, another reason for using External over Internal is that Second Site does not use Internal Exhibits. As to your second problem, a box size of 166 may be too small partly depending on whether you "Allow word wrap" as a Miscellaneous option on the Other tab pf the [Options...] window of the Report definition Screen. TMG will try to fit text in the available space and will break lines when necessay to do that. But some words (names) may still be too long and thus get cut off as you describe. Try increasing the box size incrementally to see where the cut off is not a factor. You might then increase the size just a bit more to reduce the chance of the cut off recurring. Lee

I save the charts first as .vc2 and then as .jpg files on a flash drive. I’ve had one printed as long as 60”. I usually do Ancestor Box Charts which I customize. Unless there are images on the chart I leave the resolution at around 100dpi. If there are images you’ll probably want a dpi of 200-300 to get a good printed image. Make sure the print page size is set for 24” on the short side (depending on capabilities of the printer). I use Photoshop or Lightroom to set everything up. And take the file in totally ready to print without the store clerk having to make any changes. I save the charts first as .vc2 and then as .jpg files on a flash drive. I then take the jpg to any of the stores that have large format printers—Office Max, Staples, FedEx etc. The printers are usually limited to 24 inches in width but length is only restricted to amount of paper on the roll. I also send the jpgs to other family members who want the charts so they can take to be printed. > > Hope this helps. BTW: if I need to make changes to the chart, I open the .vc2 file, make the changes and save as jpg. > > Kaye > Sent from my iPhone > >> On Jan 22, 2019, at 10:48 AM, Kenneth Wood <jkennethwood@gmail.com> wrote: >> >> Hi David, >> Thanks for the information. >> I assumed that I would have to print it to a printing program such as Microsoft Print to PDF, and I did that. 1. [TMG] Re: printing charts
    2. Thanks for the reply. It helps a lot. The biggest chart I have to date is 48in x 74in; as you can see, that is a bit of a problem. 1. [TMG] Copy person(s) to another project.
    2. Phil Holm
    3. I use TMG 7 with Win 10. Is there a method to copy person or persons with their family members from one project to a totally different and separate project?  Not from data set to data set within the same project. Phil Holm
