    3. Hi, Keith. It looks like your subscription request was correctly done and is active. If you have any further issues posting or receiving messages, please write me directly. Was your Hannah b. 1 Dec 1844, and d. Jun 1916 in West Derby, Lancashire, the daughter of John Threlkeld and Elizabeth Barker? Wondering if I'm looking in the right direction. If correct, I'm showing her in the 1861 census in St. Mary, Carlisle, as a 16-year-old with her parents, one younger sister, and three younger brothers. Does that sound correct? --Ed -----Original Message----- From: Dr. Keith G. 3. Yes, that's her. The family emigrated in the 1850's to Utah to become Mormons, but when they arrived John was disgusted by (we think) the polygamy so they returned to Carlisle, but Margaret and Mary Jane, two of Hannah's sisters, stayed and married Mormons; in Margaret's case, Joel Hills Johnson brother of Benjamin Franklin Johnson, Joseph Smith's private secretary. If Hannah had stayed, I wouldn't be here! :-) K -----Original Message----- From: Ed Williams Sent: Monday, August 12, 2019 6:06 PM To: 'Threlkeld surname mailing list, including all variant spellings like Thrailkill, Threlkel, and Thurlkill' Subject: [THRELKELD] Re: hannah threlkeld 1844-1916 Hi, Keith. 3. Well, thank you for going back to England, Hannah. ;-) I'm certain you already have it, but I was working on the Assets & Archives area of the Threlkeld One-Name Study website anyway so added that census record to the Census Records area so you can access it. Now that I know I've identified the correct family, I'll browse around a bit more this week. --Ed -----Original Message----- From: Dr. Keith G. 3. In 1820 George W. THRELKELD, my Gr. Gr. Grandfather, was born in at Steelville, Illinois. He was the son of farmer William THRELKELD who had migrated to southern Illinois from Mercer County, Kentucky, and who was married to Polly Short, daughter of Eli Short, War of 1812 veteran!! William THRELKELD was a multi-generational descendant of Christopher THRELKELD who had immigrated from Threlkeld, England (town currently exists in North Umberland) to Virginia, an American Colony, in ~1690, supposedly escaping the Capital-Punishment rath of England’s newest Sovereign King Edward??? George W. THRELKELD married Martiller Jane Crow (b. ~1824 the daughter of Robert Crow (b. 1794 Greenville, Tn. and Elizabeth Brown b. 1795 Abbiville, S.C. both of whom were devoted Mormons Baptized into the LDS Church as early as 1838) In 1846 George and Martiller left their Illinois farm, eventually joined with the LDS’s Mississippi Saints, who’d traveled through southern Illinois on their directed Pilgrimage to meet up with Brigham Young’s caravan at Fort Laramie as it journeyed towards Utah country. Elizabeth Brown’s cousin, John Brown, was the designated leader of the Mississippi Saints, many of whom became eventual members of a selected Vanguard Group directed to initiate an exploratory entrance into the Salt Lake Valley ahead of Brigham Young’s remnant caravan while he rested/camped temporarily disabled/ sick with “mountain sickness” Upon arrival into the Salt Lake Valley, at the current site of Salt Lake City, on July 22, 1847, that Vanguard Group immediately assessed and acted upon the need get their food crops planted. They created a small water reservoir to nourish their cultivated plantings from their stash of crop-seeds. Tragically, Milton THRELKEL, age ~4+ son of George THRELKELD, drowned in that reservoir; his severely distraught mother, Martiller Crow THRELKELD, gave birth shortly thereafter (days?) to a daughter, Harriott ‘Hattie’ THRELKELD. These two events supposedly represent the first death and second birth recorded of white folks in Utah! Both Elizabeth Crow and her daughter Martiller Crow THRELKELD have been recognized as “LDS Pioneer Women” and sculptured friezes of their likenesses are positioned externally on an important building denoting the creation and settlement of Salt Lake City proper!! After establishing farms in Utah, they eventually traveled to Fort Hall, Idaho and journeyed from there on June 20, 1849 over the Sierra-Nevada mountains to the foothills of Greenwood, Calif. where they overwintered. From there they departed for the gold mining settlement of Mormon Bar on the South Fork of the American River in ElDorado County George and Martiller’s second son, James W. THRELKEL, who’d been with Milton when he drowned, ended up being an orchardist, along with another younger brother George L. THRELKEL (supposedly the first white child born on Mormon Island); they developed the earliest orchards in the foothills adjacent to the Middle Fork of the American River in Placer County. James was my Great Grandfather and he lived until 1922. He married Margaret ‘Maggie’ Zantgraf, daughter of German Inmigrant Anton Zantgraf discoverer and developer of a hard rock gold mine on the banks of the Middle Fork of the American River, near the gold mining town of Rattlesnake Bar. We ‘cut final ties’ from the James W. THRELKEL orchard, cattle property which included Mormon Ravine in the late 1990’s; James’s Gr Gr Grandkid’s not attached and thus not interested in the land as their parents were! Although James’s Grandkid-siblings (3 of us) had been domiciled elsewhere for many years and are now in our 70’s (myself in Alaska for ~53 years), it was EXTREMELY difficult departing from that land because of the THRELKELD’s pioneering family history and of course it had been our home during our formative years Incidentally, my genealogical investigations have identified: • NO polygamy in my ancestral line; • NO LDS remaining in my direct line; • NO history with Mt. Meadows massacre In my Alaskan town there lives a lady who’s maiden name was THRAILKILL. She claims the family’s spelling deviations of that surname occurred during the Civil War era, maybe while the descendent families were split, living in both in Kentucky and Illinois?? She further claims her family’s oral history identified that those choosing the Confederacy spelled their name THRAILKILL and those choosing the Union spelled their name THRELKEL; to include identified diverse spellings of both variant names per family preferences!! Sorry for the long-winded response; genealogically-crippled brain power!!! kodiakmalloy@hotmail.com Sent from my iPhone > On Aug 12, 2019, at 9:42 AM, Dr. Keith G.
