David, I agree with you. I joined this group expecting to see more discussion re Thorn(e) from England as that is where I am stuck. Henry Thorne married Annie Devonshire on July 24, 1892 at Holy Trinity Church, Harrow Green E., in Essex County. On the marriage certificate his father is listed as Joseph Thorne, Cabinetmaker; a witness as Alice Thorne (don't know if this would be his mother, sister, cousin, etc.) I haven't been able to find a trace of Joseph (as I don't have an exact date or place of birth). Henry is listed as age 25 on the certificate so I have an estimated date of birth of 1867. Annie immigrated to Canada in the early 1900's with her three children and Henry was never heard from or talked about and I have not been able to find a trace of him! My husband's grandmother always said she was born in Southend-on-Sea (Not!!!) and I was unable to find a trace of her birth. I've just discoved a birth that might be hers in West Ham, London and will send away for her certificate. I've also discovered that the church they were married in is now called Holy Trinity and St. Augustine of Hippo and is on Holloway Road, Harrow Green, E11 in the Diocese of Chelmsford. I looked it up on a map and it is not far from West Ham. So maybe I am on the right track! Are there any Thorn(e)' s out there with connections to this area??? Great web site David!!! Maybe I will be able to provide a link one day.
