My Thorn line is thus: Thomas THORN who died 1717 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, VA leaving wife,(believed to have been a MERRYMAN), sons Merryman Joseph and Henry and a daughter, Susannah. Henry must have died in childhood because when Jane made deeds of gift to her other (still minor) children in 1720, Henry was not mentioned. Merryman Joseph THORN, b ca 1712, m. Catherine HIGHTOWER, d. ca 1788 in Granville County, NC. They had children: Jane, Susannah, Thomas, Anne, Katherine, Betty, Merryman Jr., Joshua, Charnel Hightower and my ancestor, Presley. Presley b. ca 1755, m. Anne WILLIAMS in Warren County, NC 1783. They spent some time in Kershaw District, SC where they were counted in the 1800 census, but were in Chester County by 1805. About 1818, after Anne had died, Presley and some of his offspring moved to Madison (later Morgan) County, AL. He died in Franklin County about 1849. His children Winnifred C. (mine), Amory, Presley Jr., William Hightower, Charnel and Thomas. Census records indicate another daughter and two sons who have not been identified to my knowledge. Winnifred C. THORN m. James Love WRIGHT in Chester County, SC and moved with him and her family to Morgan County, AL where he died intestate about 1820.
