The following is all I have on my grandfather. My Thorne line pretty well begins and ends with him, as there are no male descendants with the name. Dorris Alma (D.A.) Thorne - According to 4 children's birth certificates was born in Pennsylvania. Married Birdie Dryden Smith b.25 Sept 1894 Memphis, Shelby Co. ,TN. d. 2 Feb 1971 in Memphis, TN. Children of Dorris Thorne and Birdie Smith: 1. Elmore/Elmer Dorris/Smith Thorne b. 15 June 1914 in Memphis, TN. d. 30 Apr. 1916 in Memphis, TN. On Elmore's birth cert. Dorris is listed as being 25 yrs. old and a machinist. 2. Elmer Mathews Thorne b. 26 June 1916 in Memphis, TN. d. 18 June 1977 in Memphis, TN. On Elmer's birth cert. Dorris is listed as being 27 yrs. old and a clerk. 3. Loraine Thorne b.31 Aug. 1919 in Memphis, TN. d.1 Oct. 2002 in Millington, Shelby Co., TN. On Loraine's birth cert. Dorris is listed as residence unknown with no age or occupation. 4. Lloyd Thorne (my father) b. 24 Nov. 1924 in Memphis, TN. d. 14 Aug. 1967 in Fresno, Fresno Co., CA. On Lloyd's birth cert. Dorris is listed as being 38 yrs. old and an auto mechanic. None of the children ever knew their father. Given the dates per the birth certs. in would have been born about 1885 in PA. My father was given up for adoption at age 3 mo. and was given another name legally. Birdie was remarried before June 1937 when she applied for a social security #. Have been unable to find any record of birth, marriage or death for my grandfather. There is no doubt he was my grandfather as the only picture we have of him shows he is a duplicate of my father, or I should say my father is a duplicate of him. I found my father's sister a few years before her death and was able to meet her. I am very intrigued by my grandfather and would love to get any information on his ancestry and possible other family members. He may have remarried and had other children. It was my fathers desire to know who his familly was, and it became my desire as welI. I carried out that desire as best as I have been able. But the Thorne line has been very elusive.
