    3. Hi Michelle, I believe that Ben Thorn was the sherrif who caught Black Bart. Do you know when Ben came to Calif. ? My Thorns, Col. Thomas and family came in 1849. I am wondering if they were on the same wagon train? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michelle Bellinger" <michellebellinger@comcast.net> To: <THORN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 11, 2004 2:14 PM Subject: Benjamin Thorn NY to Illinois to Calif > Hello, > I am looking for information on the Thorns that came to California, > > Benjamin Kent Thorn was born in New York to Elizabeth "Betsy" (nee Platt) > Thorn and Platt Thorn > born in Plattsburgh, Clinton, NY > > Platts parents were: William Thorn and Susannah Mitchell > > Platt Thorn moved his family to Illinois, where he was a farmer and had > three children: > Benjamin Kent > Abbott Goddard > and Mary A > > Abbott and mary were both born in Illinois.Ben was born in NY. > > Elizabeth Thorn died 1890 age 84 > Platt died in Illinois in 1859 > > After Platts death Elizabeth came with the two younger children to > California and lived for awhile with her son Ben. > She then went to Napa, Calif. > Ben was the sheriff of San Andreas, CA and the house he built in 1861 is > still standing. He married Annie Meeks and had two children. > > I have some pictures of Ben and also some unidentified pictures of people > taken in Ohio who may also be Thorns. > If anyone is intrested in this family I would love to share with you.
