Yes, Peter Coldham books of immigrants to the southern states. But I've had cataract surgery on one eye and scheduled for the next this month. I won't be able to see to extract information until nearly Thanksgiving. But perhaps someone else has the same books in a public library? Be a good deed to extract the information. The other source, of course, are the Filby books of immigrants. Shirley Maynard
Shirley, Thanks for the tidbit or should I say large nugget maybe. Hope all goes well with your surgery. I hope someone has a copy of this book. My William Thorn arrived in Gloucester, VA in 1635 aboard the ship The Safety. That ship sailed from England, but I haven't been able to trace William to his place of origin. I am the daughter of a Thorne and in my research have found that the "e" was added by my g-g-g-grandfather, William Taylor Thorne (b. November 08, 1829, Spartanburg District, SC; d. May 26, 1916, Spartanburg District, SC.). Prior to him, all of the records (even tombstones) use Thorn. William Taylor Thorne and his father Edwin Thorn (b. October 15, 1799, Edgecombe County, NC; d. July 20, 1868, Spartanburg District, SC.) are even buried in the same cemetery. William Taylor Thorne's Civil War records spell the name Thorn, so I am not sure when he actually added the "e".
