Julie Wish I could be of help...my Thorne ancestors came to the USA in about 1641, so I really don't know about those left in England. You might try www.Thorn.pair.com website...could have some valuable references embedded in the early part of the website. Best George

Thomas Edward Thorne was born in 1846 in London, Eng. and d. May 21, 1926 in South Attleboro, Mass. He married Anne Devine Davis daughter of Elizabeth Davis. These are my great-grandparents. Thomas and Anne had two daughters Elizabeth abt. 1868 and Sarah Eliza Thorne b. Nov 3, 1867 in King's Cross, London. They were in London on the 1881 census, but by 1883 Sarah was confirmed at St. John's Church (CofE)in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire. They worked in the mills there. In 1889 Sarah and a cousin Edith Annie Hayes sailed to America to work in the mills. They saved money and then paid the passage for Thomas and Anne to come to America. They are buried in different cemeteries in Rhode Island. Anyone researching this Thorne line or having information I would appreciate hearing from you. I do have the trunk my grandmother Sarah brought all her things in from England to America and treasure it. Also have her engagement ring. She met a man from Ashton here in America, George Edward Street and they married and have 5 children, first two died at birth. Eagerly waiting to hear form a cousin or anyone with info on this Thorne family. Jackie in Texas
I am half awake and did not see this email until after I had replied to you .... please forgive me for repetitions.... Take care, Chuck p.s. if you get any of your thorns going to GA and then into AL.... let me know and we may get somewhere!!! Thanks again
Hello Bill, I just read your email about Dicie Thorn of N and S. Carolina. It peeked my curiosity !!! Here is why....... My g g. grandmother was Milly or Mildred THORN Booth(e), wife of John Sherrod Boothe. She is listed in the 1830 Montgomery co. AL census as being from S.C. and he from N.C. She was born ca. 1800, since we have record of her in the 1860 census as being 60..... The name Holland is not uncommon where they eventually wind up. I find a Hollon near some Booths in Autauga co. AL around 1830 or so. Then there are Hollands in the present day Crenshaw co. AL where they probably wound up. So that is why your query peeked my curiosity..... Also, I have a feeling that the Thorns who lived near present day Booth, AL in Autauga county, AL may have been the bunch providing John Booth with his wife, Milly Thorn. Just my theory only.... we are not sure if the John Booth who patented land in that exact area is our John to be honest, but the circumstantial evidence is somewhat there.. You mentioned that Dicie and her hesband had 8 known children... could yo give me information on them, which might pop a light bulb on in my head ??? We really are at a dead end with our Milly Thorn family. Would love to find out who her parents were.... YOur info. fits timewise, and placewise, so maybe you can provide some clues to help us and in turn we can stir up some clues for you. There are Hollands in Crenshaw co. AL if that is any help. Hoping to hear from you, Bill !! Take care, Chuck Boothe
Chuck, I really do wish that we could help each other here. Everything is so tantalizingly close. But, even after all of the years that I have at research, I have managed to find only six Thorn people that I could even come close to laying claim to. I have her as the only known child of John and ? Thorn. Not much help, huh? Keep at it, like I will, and if you get any ''hits'' lemme know. Bill
I am hoping to find more info on a maternal line 4Xgreat grandmother, Dicie THORN. She was born about 1783 in NC and died before 1860 in Westville, Kershaw, SC. She was married about 1800 in SC to John HOLLAND who was born about 1780 in NC and died before 16 Aug 1861 in Westville, Kershaw, SC. This couple had 8 known children. Bill Hughes kinseeker4@msn.com
