    1. Dickson Co., Tennessee
    2. Good Morning List, I just made a fabulous discovery in my research and hope one of you can help me. In the 1850 census for Dickson County, Tennessee, I found the following family listed: 777 - 777 James Thorne, age 47, male, wagonmaker, born in North Carolina; Susan Thorne, age 45, female, born in Tennessee; Catherine, age 25, female, born in Tennessee; Ann J., age 21, female, born in Tennessee, Hilliard, age 15, male, farmer, born in Tennessee, Annabelle (?), age 12, born in Tennessee, another child I can't read name or age, born Tennessee; William age 6, male, born in Tennessee, Columbus, age 4, male, born in Tennessee I have been searching for my gg-grandfather, Hilliard or Hilyard Thorne for many years. His son, my g-grandfather was Perry Wayne Wesley Thorne. Perry was born in 1850 near Nashville, Tenn, so this is NOT the right Hilliard Thorne above... he's too young to be my gg-grandfather. I DO believe however, this family is related. The names Hilliard and Columbus Thorne have been repeated through my family for many generations. Those names are not common so I feel the names above are part of my family search. Do any of you recognize these names? Any help is sincerely appreciated. Amy McCroskie Denver, CO 303-346-2447

    1. Thorn in Kentucky and Tennessee
    2. Pam, Should I have mentioned that my g-grandfather, Perry Wayne Thorne was legally named Perry Wayne Wesley Thorn? Hmmm.... now I'm really curious about the connection with Daniel Wade Thorn and wife Sarah Caroline Green. Wasn't it her father whose name was Wesley? After many years of searching, I just 10 minutes ago found a listing for a Hilliard H. Thorn listed in the 1870 Hickman County, Kentucky census at FamilyTreeMaker.com. Supposedly my Perry Wayne Wesley Thorn's father was named Hilliard or Hillyard so this is a great find! Now I'm trying to find the written census online so I can see if my Perry is listed as his son. Your Thorn family was in all the same places as mine. I wonder if we are related somewhere along the line? I'll keep looking! Amy McCroskie Denver, CO

There is a Thorne Hill in Youngstown which I believe is part of the homestead. He was said by his son in law to have been associated with the underground railroad. At least was anti-slavery activist. They had 9 children that I know of. Among them my Great Great grandmother. Anyone have any connection with this family? Jan

    3. Hi Amy: I have Thorns (although i don't know too much about them back to far) that came to Tenn, then Ky, at least part of them did. They first appeared in Dickson Co, TN, which is close to Davidson Co (Nashville) then my gggrandfather Daniel Wade Thorn came to Caldwell (now Lyon Co. Ky) about 1853. According to all family members and stories, Daniel Wade Thorn's father was a William Thorn and his mother was an Esther Wade. Esther was supposedly a rich stove manufacturers daughter from PA. I have been unable to prove this and don't know how much truth there is to it. I do know somewhere I have seen the name Hillyard mixed up in this family. There have been several people on the list who say Daniel Wade Thorn's father was a John Thorn, but I just can't believe this. Daniel Wade Thorn married a Sarah Caroline Green, whose father was a Wesley Green, who was married to a Gentry. I do have children's names of Daniel Wade and Sarah Caroline Green Thorn, if you think there is a connection.
