Hi there My question is how do I find out when and where GEORGE and SARAH BROWN could have gone? I thought I would try a different approach. SARAH ANN BROWN (maiden Davis, first husband Thorne) and her husband GEORGE BROWN (previously married to Isabella ???) were married December 17, 1902 in Cheltenham Register Office, Gloucestershire, England. They were living at 1 Letchmore Villas, Cheltenham in 1907 (where George lived in 1902 at time of marriage). By 1914 there was no George Brown or wife in Cheltenham. (a researcher looked this up) I don't know if George and Sarah had children. But, George from marriage #1 had Thomas Brown b. 1889 and Isabella Brown b. 1890. Sarah from marriage # 1 had Jessie Thorne b. 1889, Ernest Thorne b. 1891, Gordon Thorne b. 1896 and Norman Thorne b. 1898. Thanks for reading this. Judy in Canada

Unless they've moved the place since last year, Stanway is in Gloucestershire, not "Glouschestershire." (Gloucestershire is pronounced "GLOSS-ter-shear" like the "Worcestershire" in "Worcestershire sauce.") I know this because that is where my Thayer family originated in the 16th century (in Thornbury, which is now in South Gloucestershire). G. David Thayer Salem, OR USA

Dear List My Thorn line seems to start in Suffolk in 1600s, then to Essex and on to London. Would love to know if my original Thorn actually was born in Suffolk or if he came from elsewhere but havent got that far yet. All I have on my great grandfather is that his name was Thomas Edward Thorne b. 1846 in London. His mother's name was Sarah Chandler. He married Anne Devine Davis and he came to America after 1889. He lived in Mass. died May 21, 1926 in South Attleboro, Mass. Had two daughters Elizabeth and Sara Eliza. Family story is that he worked in the king's stables. Probably cleaning the stalls. They were Church of England and poor working class people. They left London abt. 1880 and moved to Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire and then came to America. In Lancashire they attended St.. John's Church in Hurst. Their daughter Sarah (my grandmother) and a cousin Annie Hayes came together to Mass. and worked and saved money and then sent for the parents to come. That is all I know. Can anyone help? Pam Thanks for your vote of confidence. As you can see by the volume of traffic and its contents, people tend to vote with their E-mails. Joyce, Thanks for the list of names and dates. I'm going to spend a couple of days looking through them carefully and comparing.... BUT.... I can verify that I recognize the name of Susan Washburn born about 1805 in Tennessee. I've never found her in the records but I remember that name from family discussions in years past and I think I have some crusty old pictures of her locked away in hiding. I definitely recognize the name. Are you telling me the first name on your list, Generation No. 1, James Thorn born about 1800 married to Susan Washburn is the same James Thorn, wagonmaker in the 1850 Dickson County, Tennessee census? With children, Catherine, Ann, Hilliard, Anabelle, William and Columbus? If that is indeed Susan WASHBURN, then they are my.....oh my! let's see now.... Ida Belle Thorne was my grandmother, Perry Wayne Wesley Thorn was my g-grandfather, Hilliard Thorn was my gg-grandfather and James and Susan were my ggg-grandparents.... oh my. I think 200 years of brick walls just crumbled and fell on the floor. I think I need to excuse myself for a few minutes to clear away a few tears and goosebumps. I definitely need to take a few deep breaths.... I'll be back with you as soon as possible. Wow. Thank you doesn't seem adequate all of a sudden. Let's keep the CHAT and Roll Call going. Miracles are definitely happening here. Amy McCroskie Denver, CO
