Hi Shelley, During that time frame most of my Thorn/Thorne family resided in Nanticoke, Luzerne County, Pa. I hope you find someone. My mother’s maiden name was Forbes, and for 40 years I’ve been searching for Forbes ancestors. When one of my cousins was yDNA tested, he matched no Forbes at all, but three Thorns. To make a long story short, I’m pretty sure that this ‘name change’ occurred in Burlington County, New Jersey from 1800-1810, or maybe later if there was an adoption. My ancestor William Forbes was b 1803 in New Jersey. He is the Thorn. He had a brother Anthony, b 1805 in Burlington County, NJ. A descendant of Anthony’s is now doing the test to determine whether they were full brothers. Does anyone know of any connections between Forbeses and Thorns in New Jersey? This is a whole new thing for me. Judy Dukes in Indiana
I've "rescued" a group of 6 photographs belonging to the BOGGESS Family of West Virginia. The first is a photograph of Mildred BOGGESS which was taken at the Wilson Art Shop in Parkersburg, WV. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Mildred about 3 years old at the time. The second photograph is also of Mildred BOGGESS, taken at the same studio, again in the early 1900's with Mildred appearing to be about 5 years old at the time. The third photograph of Ruby BOGGESS, with no studio or location indicated, it was taken later in the 1900's with Ruby likely in her 30's or 40's at the time it was taken. The fourth and fifth photographs are the same, a photograph of Owen, Mildred, Pearl, and Ruby BOGGESS taken at the Chandlee's Cute Studio, no location. Owen appears to be in his 30's or 40's and the three girl range from infant to 3 years, most likely taken in the early 1900's. The final photograph is of Owen BOGGESS and his wife, taken at a Studio in Mannington, WV sometime in the 1890's most likely. Owen appears to be in his 40's and his wife younger, maybe 20's or 30's. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Owen J. BOGGESS was b. 1856 in Harrison Co. WV to parents Frederick March or W. BOGGESS (b. 1831 in Harrison Co. WV-d. 9 Sept 1882 in Bingamon, WV) and Eliza Jane SHAW (b. 22 Jan 1829 in Harrison Co. WV-d. 5 Sept 1887 in Bingamon, WV). Owen was one of 6 children born to this couple including, William B.; John M.; Samuel C.; Owen J.; Caleb E.; and Mary A. BOGGESS, all born between 1852 and 1865. It appears that Owen was married more than once, with his first wife Margaret B. HUEY he had 7 children including a son James F. BOGGESS b. 1879. Owen's second marriage was to Harriett A. (b. 1868). Owen d. 24 Nov 1924 and is buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV. Ruby Dola BOGGESS was b. 27 Jun 1904, the daughter of Owen J. BOGGESS and Harriett A. HALL. Ruby was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Mildred; Mattie; Ruby; Garland; and Ivan Owen BOGGESS, all born between 1902 and 1907. Ruby married Bernard B. THORN and d. 31 Aug 1930 and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery North in Parkersburg, WV. Mildred BOGGESS was b. 12 Sept 1901 in WV and died in Wood, WV in October 1985. Census records provide the following information: 1880 census of Mannington, WV: Owen J. BOGGESS, age 23, a Farmer, born VA, parents born VA Margaret B.
