I have been working on my maternal Thompson side of the family for two years. I was stymied by the parents of William Reeves Thompson (1805-1877) born in Green County, Kentucky, and died in Maries County, Missouri. I consulted a professional genealogist with the following results. The evidence supports with a high degree of confidence that Ratliff Thompson of Green County, Kentucky, was the father of William Reeves Thompson. William likely had brothers named Johnathan, Moses, and Israel Thompson; plus the older sisters Elizabeth (bFeb1798) and Molley (b17Nov1800). Evidence gathered from Ancestry World Tree and Archibald Thompson's Diary claim that Ratliff Thompson was married to Catherine "Cattie" Cumpton or Crumpton, or Compton. Further, that Ratliff was the son of Archibald Thompson and Mary Elswick; however, this has not yet been proven. Ratliff disappears from Green County, Kentucky, as he no longer appears on the tax list; he does appear in Gasconade County, Missou! ri, by 1830. William Reeves and Martha Moman were married in 1835 in Gasconade County. Johnathan was married to Mary Rogers in Gasconade County in 1837. He was 16 and Mary was 15. There are more clues too numerous to list in this small space. If you would like to have more of the evidence that led the genealogist to declare that the documents that I supplied and that she uncovered would lead one to believe that possible and probable are words that could be used with some confidence in the conclusions she reached, let me know on the board.
