Since there's WARDELL & MonmouthCo connections, I think you should look at the descendants of Cornelius THOMPSON, surfaced from Scotland by 1700 in Freehold,MonmouthCo NJ...and some of his descendants married WARDELLs--Wardell is a common surname in the county;like me, most of us descend from Eliakim &Lydia (Perkins)Wardell who settled in (now) Rumson near LongBranch (where many were life-savers&worked for wrecking companies).Eliakim's brotherSamuel Waddell(Wardell/Wardwell) was hanged sadly for "witchcraft" in AndoverMA (see Salem Trials account);& wifeLydia is the subject of new book (THE NAKED QUAKER)--once banished to NJ, they lead quiet lives as Quakers. Eliakim was 1st Sheriff of Monmouth Co. Your Wardell history in NewEngland's 1600s & Monmouth CoNJ's 1700-1800s is an interesting one--and well documented. I think, you may be connected to Cornelius Thom(p)son (as I am)-a good genealogy is THE STONE HOUSE THOMPSONs (at MCHS! Library in Freehold,NJ)--big family. Let me know if you think these are your families;I'll look up at NEHGS next time I'd down there--i.e.:Late-1800s article in NYBG register about the Wardells rescuing Germans from a shipwreck off LongBranch gives a nice account of that family, along with some Wardell photos from late 1800s.
