Author: Judith6355 Surnames: Thompson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17180/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for information on John Thompson who was the father of Samuel Joseph Thompson (1820) and, probably, Moses F. Thompson (1823). I believe both sons were born in what is now West Virginia. They apparently migrated down the Ohio to Hanover, IN, then back upstream to Cincinnati where John is said to have died. The Thompsons were Scotch-Irish from Northern Ireland. I do not know if John was born in Ireland or in the U. S. Because Samuel is usually listed in the census as born in Ohio, but once as born in VA, and since some of his children say their father was born in Ohio and some in WV, my theory is that he was born in Ohio County Virginia. In the 1820 census there was a John Thompson and wife (age 26 ) and no children (Samuel could have been born later in the year) as well as lots of other Thompsons.
