    3. You said "and the other Joseph Thompson eventually left VA and moved to KY or TN (can't remember which now)." I believe that this Joseph is my ancestor who arrived in Kentucky, Fayette County at the time, in 1787-1789. Family tradition and information in the 1850 census records indicate that at least some of his children, if not all, were born in Virginia. I have heard that they came from Albermarle County and that they came from Culpepper County. Actually it is more likely that they were from Augusta, at least in my mind. There are strong indications that Joseph and Mary lived in Augusta County Virginia before moving to Kentucky. The strongest indication is that there were no Joseph Thompsons listed in the tax records for Culpeper or Albermarle Counties in 1787. There were, however three Josephs listed in Augusta County. Further, there are land records that pertain to a Joseph Thompson who sold land in 1788 which is about the time that our Joseph made the move to Kentucky. According to the Augusta County Virginia land records, Joseph Thompson purchased 155 acres of land from Windle and Elizabeth Bright on 16 October 1773.20 The land was located in Beverly Manor and the transaction was recorded in Augusta County Deed Book 19, pages 507 to 510. This purchase occurred at about the time Joseph was first married and starting to raise a family. Joseph Thompson and his wife Mary sold 155 acres of land in Beverly Manor on the South River to Joseph Wapler on 15 July 1788. This transaction is recorded in Deed Book 26 on page 125.20 The property is located in the southwest region of Beverly Manor about 7 or 8 miles from the Tinkling Springs area. A list of delinquent taxpayers for Augusta County noted Joseph Thompson and had a notation that he had moved to Kentucky. I am assuming that there are no DNA test results on the Thompson DNA site that include the Joseph Thompson who disappeared from Augusta Co Virginia. I have good documentation back to the Joseph who arrived in Fayette County which later became Jessamine County. Let me ask what would be the benefit of doing the DNA test and which one should I sign up for? Bob Thompson Prior Lake, MN or Winter Haven, FL
