Also, one email notice can contain 1 to 20 individual notices. It takes a lot of time to shift through all of them to see if there is any useful information for me. In order to speed the process, I, and I'm sure many other researchers, check the subject line for clues. When I see one that may fit my family, I go to the board and read the notice. However, there are a lot of generic subject's and this is where the time consuming work really is. For example, "Thompson" or "Thompson family" on a Thompson Board. The surname is obvious or you wouldn't have listed it on the Thompson surname board. Or just the name "John Thompson". I'm sure you will agree that there are a lot of Thompson's and a lot of John's out there. I normally don't open these inquiries right away because of the time constraints. So, I'm sending along a little 'hint' on how to better your chances of getting everyone on the list to consider your inquiry and increasing your chance of getting the information you need. Be specific on the Subject Line, i.e. name, date, place. If you dont' have all that, put in what info you have so that your notice stands out from the rest. You might be more successful in your quest for information. In your case, might I suggest a subject line that looks like this: "Seeking info on the family of George Thompson b abt 1859, Hoxton, London, England" or "George Thompson b abt 1859, Hoxton, London, England". I hope this helps you get more people looking at your inquiries. Good Luck in your search. God Bless! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
