In any case, any living male Thompson/Thomson who does not have a proven/known male Thompson relative in the Thompson/Thomson DNA project should certainly join that project: http://www.thompsonfamilies.org/ By the way, there is yet a third known Davidson/Thompson "connection." A William Davidson married a Martha Baker, and they were from the Buckingham/Prince Edward Co., VA area. They moved to Botetourt Co., VA around 1774 (the part of that county that became part of Rockbridge Co., VA in 1778). Martha Baker was the daughter of Douglas Baker and his wife Jane Thompson, and this Jane Thompson was a daughter of Reverend John Thom(p)son who came to VA from PA (as stated in my last e-mail). Around 1781, William and Martha (Baker) Davidson sold their home, that was by then in Rockbridge Co., VA, to a John Thompson, and that John Thompson later willed that home to his apparent son Thomas Thompson. This particular Thompson family appears to have been from the family of the Matthew Thompson who left a will in Augusta Co., VA in 1753. I don't know whether or not the above sale might be a clue that Matthew Thompson's family was related to Reverend John Thom(p)son's family, versus i! f this home sale by a William Davidson (who had married a descendant of Rev. John Thom(p)son) to this John Thompson in Rockbridge Co., VA was just a coincidence. A fourth Davidson/Thompson "connection" involved John Davidson (born 1757) who married Mary Thompson, daughter of a Joseph and Mary (Wright) Thompson, in 1787. This John Davidson was a son of an earlier John Davidson (died 1762 in Augusta Co., VA, and this older John Davidson was married to an Elizabeth Maben or Houston). This older John Davidson was the son of a Robert Davidson (born late-1600s) and his wife Ann (maybe/probably Ann Dunlap, per some researchers). Unfortunately, we have no known DNA donor from this Robert/John Davidson family at this time. There is nothing to suggest that any of the four Davidson families mentioned in my posts were related to one another. As a matter of fact, it strongly appears that the above William Davidson was a member of MY overall Davidson family, and I am in Family 10 on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website (and as stated previously, two of the other Davidson families with "Thompson connections" are part of Family 1 and Family 3 on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website). The above Joseph Thompson, however, appears to have been yet another member of the Matthew Thompson family of Augusta/Rockbridge Co., VA. We do have a couple of DNA donors from the family of this Matthew Thompson, via one of his sons who was named Matthew Thompson, Junior. As far as I can tell, however, we have no DNA donors from the William/Hugh Thompson family of Augusta Co., VA, the Reverend John Thom(p)son family of Amelia/Prince Edward Co., VA, nor from the Thompson family in Montgomery/Carroll Co., VA (but I have not performed a complete search of the Thompson DNA website to confirm this).
