I might be able to give you some leads on tracking the Herod family. My Anderson line seems to have some connection to the Herod family in that a Joseph Herod lived pretty close (ca six houses away) to my William Anderson in the 1830 Rutherford Co., TN Census and a Calvin Herod lived next door to my Asa Anderson in the 1850 Cannon Co., TN Census.
