J. Pratt, of Madill, on the streets of that city, and succeeded in making his escape. Pratt was a man about 40 years old and an officer highly respected by everyone in the city. Saturday night he took a gun off of Thompson, who was drinking and the latter fact is supposed to be what prompted the killing. The officer heard that Thompson was after him with a Winchester and called Sheriff Webb over the phone to come and assist him in arresting him. Before the Sheriff arrived , Thompson, whom as stated, was armed with a Winchester rifle, met Pratt and after commanding him to throw up his hands shot him dead and escaped before he could be placed under arrest. The slain man left a wife and several children. The culprit it is known went in a northerly direction, and a posse is now on his trail, and it is believed that he will be captured before night. Feeling is running high in Madill and it is feared that he will be roughly handled when captured. The funeral of Officer Pratt was held this afternoon. Since the above was in type Thompson gave himself up last Tuesday afternoon and was put in jail to await trial. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
