Robert Thompson died in August 1880 in Mapleton, ND (then Dakota Territory), and was buried under Robert A. Thompson, which a gravesite index website had under Roberta Thompson. Since that was the only place where I had found the sibling under Roberta, I went on that. A visit to the county archives solved the mystery, but only part of it. I looked at Robert's probate records, found his marker in the Mapleton cemetery, but still have no clue as to how he died at 23. I do have confirmation he was Robert, not Roberta.
