    1. Re: [THOMPSON] Migration Patterns: THOMPSON, THOMSON, TOMSON, TOMPSON Families....
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: wallwiz Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/16773.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: i don't know how I missed this, for 3 1/2 yers, but i did.. My ggg grandfather is the Zachariah Thompson indicated in the 1820 Gwinnett Co Ga list. I've long suspected that the Martha listed above him is his mother, but can't prove, any more than I can prove that his father was Zachariah, a son of Benjamin II of Wilkes/Hancock, Ga. Zach Sr died intestate, and his fahter Benjamin didn't name the wife or children when he wrote Zach's will. Based upon the time of death, Zach's (Jr) mother had to be pregnant when he died. Since Zach Jr showed his place of birth as SC, I believe his mother must have relocated to SC to be with her family, whom I believe may have been Palmers. The Palmer name has been used as middle names for both my gg grandfather James and his brother, John. Martha's drawing as a widow, and perhaps IF Zach was the only surviving child, could account for both being successful drawers. Zachariah married Sarah Thompson in Jackson Co, Ga on Apr 4,1817. They relocated to Talladega Co , Al by 1850 (found as Thomson in the household of eldest son John), and Tallapoosa Co in 1853. Zachariah died in Tallapoosa in 1862, John in 1856. I'm inclined to believe Sarah's father was Joseph (ca 1768-aft 1860), who relocated to Randolph Co Ga in the 1830's with a son also named Zachariah (1803-1868) and a sister Named Nancy who married Thomas Crozier. These names are found in the family Bible. Whether or not the Joseph in question is the Joseph of Gwinnett Co, or the Joseph of Jackson Co hasn't been determined. His ages were listed as 82 and 92 respectively in the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Randolph Co. John's will mentions his parents, brothers James, Benjamin,& Clement, sisters Elizabeth McCord, Nancy Wlliamson, Martha, and Susan. John was evidently a batchelor. Although unproven, and also through the processes of elimnation coupled with y-dna evidence with those with whom I share identical and near identical dys values (64 or more alelles of 67) I believe I'm descended through Benj Jr's intestate son Zachariah...simply can't prove it at this point.
