    1. Re: [THOMPSON] Corrections to my posting
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Ghostchaserdigginguproots Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/16924.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The information I posted stated that the Thompson's listed might be children of John Thompson and Lady Spotswood. No information has been found to document that. More information points to a a Leonard Thompson from Miller county, MO. who may have been the father or uncle of these Thompson's who were in Newton and McDonald county by the early to mid 1840's. The Donaghe family was also with this group. The second piece of information that was incorrect was a statement that Washington Walker led the 1852 wagon train. He led it only to Missouri where one wagon train was formed and Mercer Thompson was elected wagon train captain. Mercer was a natural leader and had prior Oregon trail experience. Their wagon made it through with no troubles other then two cases of cholera, which Mercer Thompson, trained in medicine, was able to treat.
