I'm sorry, I had assumed you were male (and even called you Robert by mistake), in which case you could take the yDNA test. Based on your last post, I assume that you are female instead in which case the yDNA test isn't possible without having a known uncle or brother. The mTDNA won't help you figure out your father. You could do the Family Finder tests (which maps autosomal DNA) and hope that you could turn up a Thompson cousin who has a better handle on their connection to the Thompsons. Who knows, you might even show a match with my mom and I. Darn, yDNA test would have been good. Maybe DNA test can still help though. Let me know if there's any way I can help. Since surnames are passed down from father to son like the Y-chromosome, this test is for males taking a Y-DNA test. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA and acquire a new surname by way of marriage, so the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, or Y-DNA67 marker test. Females who would like to check their direct paternal line can have a male relative with this surname order a Y-DNA test. I was the only child born to my mother by Robert Samuel Thompson. Author: TullCox Surnames: Thompson, Hunnicutt, Manus Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/19672/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I need help finding the parents of my 2nd great grandmother Mary Ann Manus (born 1843) and her brother Hamilton (born 1843) Benton County, Al. They are found on the 1850 census living with John Hunnicutt, born 1783, North Carolina and his wife, Rebecca Thompson, who lived in Jacksonville, Benton County, Al. I thought they might have belonged to one of the Hunniecutt daughter's but that became a dead end. I then tried to see if they might be a niece or nephew, but could not find enough information. I do know from the 1900 census, that their father was born in North Carolina and their mother was born in Georgia. Mary Ann married Marcus Edmonson. Thanks for any help. Birth records confirm Solomon and Mary M are his parents. But that is where the all records cease. There is a marriage record where a Solomon Thompson married Delana Cottrill but can not verify it is the same Solomon Thompson that married Mary M. He married (2) DELANA COTTRILL on 03 May 1844 in Harrison County, West Virginia. She was born about 1825. SAMUEL THOMPSON was born on 20 Jun 1855 in Barbour, Orange, Virginia, USA. He died in Oct 1855 in Barbour, Orange, Virginia, USA. HENRY THOMPSON was born on 13 Oct 1856 in Barbour, West Virginia, USA. He died on 28 Oct 1939 in Clarksburg, Harrison, West Virginia, USA. He married Mary Frances Cottrill, daughter of Joseph Cottrill and Mary Ann Cottrill (maiden) on 05 Jun 1882 in Ritchie, West Virginia, United States.
