    1. Re: [THOMPSON] Andrew Thompson- Gainesville, Hall County, GA died 1857
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: wallwiz Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/19720.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The confirmation came from a member of our Thompson I1d1 dna group who is a direct descendant of Jesse. I missed the fact that Jesse was also married to Mahala Green, who must be the mother of Andrew. My records also show Jesse marrying Nancy Clark. I have a marriage date of 1774, but evidently failed to document which spouse, and don't have the time to go through all the records to locate the source. Benjamin and his family located to Ga in 1773 with his wife Anne (dau of Thomas Spain & Martha Hoskins)) and 17 children, ranging in age from 6 mos to 19 yrs, which is documented in Early Pioneers of Georgia. The area became Wilkes Co., and was later split into Hancock and Green Cos, which in turn were further subdivided in following decades. I share exact matches for 67 Y-dna markers with 4 other individuals that are direct descendants of Benjamin, Zacharias/Zachariah, and Jennings, sons of the Benjamin of Bute Co, NC who died in 1771. The lady who shared her brother's details with me is a descendant of Jesse, the son of Benjamin,Jr. Here's the link to the website where you can see some comparisons: http://dgmweb.net/DNA/Thompson/ThompsonDNA-results-HgI1.html Our group is in the Norse/Ultra Norse group at the very bottom of the page in Group S. I've since enlarged my results to 111 markers, and have subsequently received the results for the FTDNA's Family Finder which I ordered in June. It'll take quite a bit of time to digest, since it includes both Y and Mt dna matches from both sides of the family. I hope this is helpful. There were many other Thompsons in the area during the pre and post Revolutionary period with identical names making research difficult. There's far too many pencil whipped genealogies showing familial relationships that are physical impossibilities. This family is no exception due to the habit of using repetitive naming patterns over many generations. The names most commonly used for sons were Benjamin, Joseph, William, John, Zachariah, Jesse, Gideon, and Isham. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ScrogginsD53 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/19720.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for the reply. What are the sources you used that prove Jesse was Andrew's father and Benjamin was Jesse's father? I have found deeds in Hancock County, of a Benjamin Thompson, Sr and his wife Anne buying land in Hancock County, and also a Jesse Thompson and his wife Anne buying land in Hancock County in 1796. Also other misc. deeds. Who was Andrew's mother as Jesse did not marry Nancy Clarke until 1800? I also found a will abstract of a Benjamin Thompson, Sr. in Bute County, NC. with Zachary Thompson as one of the ex'rs. and a Benjamin Thompson will in Hancock County, GA naming a son Jesse. Just not sure if this is the same family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The Greene name comes from General Nathaniel Greene of the Revolutionary War, and a Ga county named for him. Nancy Clark is the daughter of Gen Elijah Clark, also of the Revolution. If memory serves correctly, Jesse was a Rev War veteran, also. I'm descended via Jesse's brother Zachariah. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Mylonglostkin Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/19749/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have a potential problem. I have been looking at a family tree of Moses R. and Catharine Hite Thompson. It lists a William J. Thompson born abt 1826. This William married Sarah Bryant and moved to Pike County, Arkansas. It also lists another William W. Thompson born abt 1829. This William married Margaret Ferguson and moved to Saline County, Arkansas. Can these 2 really be brothers? Why would parents name 2 sons the same name born so close together? Does anyone know which William belongs to Moses and Catherine? Thanks. She married my great-grandfather, Edward LeRoy Robertson of Poughkeepsie, NY in 1880 and had two sons, Thomas Ingalls and Frederick William (my grandfather). I can not find any records of her in Dutchess County prior to 1880 when she married my gr-grandfather. I have been unable to find the church records of her marriage, though I continue to check all church records of that era that I come across. One family story is that "my" Christina M was of native descent. I have no evidence to support this, but I will say that all other family stories have proved to be correct. I would be grateful for any information your could provide as to whether the Christina Thompson that you are related to came to the US (NY) to live Cynthia Robertson Beahan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
