Thompson served in the Civil War with McKenzie's Raiders, 5th. Cav., company C. Somehow he ends up with Fain's Regiment, 63rd. Tennessee Infantry which was also called 74th. Tennessee Infantry. You can find him and his family on the 1860 Census in Bradley Co, Tn. His name was smudged and looked like Briston but has been corrected to Richard. Also, out of McMinn Co, Tenn. is a Bryant Thompson who was born about 1827 in Tn. He was also in the Civil War and I believe that he is someway connected to my Richard G. Thompson as his grandson, Jacob Bryant Thompson married my grandmother's sister and he told one of his granddaughters that he and his wife were 3rd. cousins (his wife was the granddaughter of Richard G. Thompson. Such a mess and I can't get past this brick wall. Also, the Buttram and Lane families fit into my family of Thompson's by either close friendships or being relatives some way.
