Would you like to see mine. Its not been going very long so i'm only back to 1800.Im still trying to work forwards to see where they ended up. So far i have traces one group to manchester area and a group to coventry. They all start from the The black country area of the midlands and appear to be in iron working. My grandad thompson told me that all thompsons can wear the black watch tartan so look to the edinburgh area of scotland. I once looked up that snippet and thompsons are from the cambell clan, if i'm remembering right. The thomasson clan were based there. They all appear to hardworking and unassuming people and stay in tight family groups even up to my grandads era. My dad broke away and has guilt to this day that he let the family down. He still thinks they would be ashamed of him even though he has an MBE (kept behind the toilet door)and a Freeman to the City of London. He won't even open my tree. Most of my tree seen to stay together until the parents have died before moving away. Once that move has been made they almost form their own "Clan" My dad said he only had contact with his dad and sisters never any extended family although he remembers his grandmother funeral because it was the first time he had ever been in a car. His Aunts stayed behind with the grand parents, One even turned down marriage because the chap would be a burden to the family i.e disabled in some way so the "common good" was still paramount even in the 1930's. the Aunts never married but continued to support each other until they died (about a week ! apart). Mind you I was always brought up along the lines of what ever you decide must be in the best interest of the family probably still there. Sorry if ive bored you. NH - which I'd like to get back to descendants or family members. One photo is of "Sarah Marcella Call Thompson", and this is the only one which was taken in Fitchburg (Worcester Co.) MA, whereas the others were taken in Manchester (Hillsboro Co.) NH. She looks to be about age 50-55, and the photo looks to have been taken about 1880. I found the Call family in 1850 and 1860 living in Merrimack Co., NH. In 1850, parents were Norman Call (age 39), wife Jerusha (41), William N. (11), Sarah M. (9), Joseph M. and John M. (both 7), Elvira L. (5), Franklin W. (3) and Francis H. (1). By 1860, the top four children were gone, and living with parents were Elvira L. (15), Frank W. (13), Francis H. (11) and Rendall H. (9). I've been up all night doing the same thing all over the net. Over the last week or so, I researched hundreds of Nathaniel Smiths, and their derivatives. I've been on ancestry for the quickie freebie but did not find anything useful. You know me, never one for half measures...I have found only one reference on ancestry that provides enough info to make an intelligent inference from what's there: Corporal Nathaniel Smith: Res.: Branford, CT; Humphrey's Company; Enlisted May 26, 1777; Term: War; Died Dec. 07, 1777. There are four other Nathaniel Thompsons but they must fit a certain set of criterial to me relevant. The above has been the only one so far...and I am still not convinced. There are quite a few Privates, and one Captain...but the kicker is they must be married to Lucy Lynde. There are a few on "FootNotes" with Lucy noted, but not much more. The stupid ancestry lists, are just that, useless lists of names, with no other details to place them somewhere in time or place and related to whom. One question: was Nathaniel Smith a victim of the Rev. War, between 1772-1786? If so, where, and where would he be buried? I'd like to share this puzzle with you. Being an obsessive, I am bogged down. I can't get this Smith business clarified, I'm, stuck on this stage. If you have access to worthwhile services, for which I am unable to belong to, I am looking for a Nathaniel Smith, and his wife Lucy Smith [wd]. first of Leicester, then of Brimfield, MA and lastly of Guilford/Brattleborough, VT [1772 Census for Guilford, VT]. Now this is not as easy as it seems. 1. [[7xgm] Lucy [bc May 27, 1741] is really Lucy Lynde, d/o Samuel Lynde and Lucy Lamb of Leicester/Framington, MA [md. Oct 09, 1740] 2. she marries [7xgf] Nathaniel Smith of Leicester, MA...[bc Sep 16, 1738; md Aug 14, 1762] s/o James Smith and Dorcas Richardson [Leicester, MA] 3. they had five children, somewhere!!!! [1772 Census for Guilford, VT] 4. one of which is "my" [4xgm] Polly Smith, the other four are unfound as of yet 5. she married [4xgf] Solomon Thompson in Brimfield, MA [bc Nov 23, 1760; md Jul 13, 1786] 6. BUT!... [7xgf] Nathaniel Smith and [7xgm] Lucy Lynde disappear from Leicester, MA, and turn up in the 1771/2 Census for Guilford, VT/NY 7. this is a tumultuous time when VT, MA, NH and NY are fighting over who is going to get that part of the wilderness as part of their state...so we have a conflict between two groups, the Yorkers and the Sufferers 8. the Smiths are in the middle of it 9. each side trying to outdo the other in records destruction...for eight years!!! 10. Polly was born c 1764, so she would have been about seven-eight years old at the time of the census 11. Polly marries Solomon back in Brimfield, in July 13, 1786, 14 years after the census and at the ae 22 years 12. where were Polly and her family during those "lost years" 1772-1786 13. now, how is it that Polly is back in Brimfield...what has happened in the space of those 12 years??? 14. we also find a Lucy Smith, [wd] marrying a Thomas Ellinwood, back in Brimfield, Jun 03, 1784...just two years before her daughter...SAME TOWN, SAME CHURCH... 15. I can find nothing to identify this Lucy Smith [wd] as the original Lucy Lynde that md Nathaniel Smith, so I must assume until then, that she is the one I am looking for 16. Lucy Smith [ae 43] md Thomas Ellinwood [bc Aug 01, 1728/mdc Jun 03, 1784; ae 56], and is his third wife 17. guess who his second wife was...and who just so happens to have connections back to the Thompsons, MARY THOMPSON, Solomon's aunt!!! 18. so Lucy is now, Solomon's aunt and his wife's mother! ...if my assumptions have merit... one big happy family 19. but what happened to Nathaniel, Polly's father, and Lucy's husband? ...his death cannot be found anywhere... 20. and since Polly and her mother are living in or near Brimfield, the other children must have been there as well...some probably already married, more than likely they are all married, but to whom? 21. assuming the children were ...using the LDS figures... .....born........ 1762/3, 1764/5 [Polly], 1766/7, 1768/9, 1770/1 females md....1782/3, 1784/5>1786], 1786/7, 1788/9, 1790/1 males md.......1786/7, 1788/9..........., 1790/1, 1792/3, 1794/5 22. are there children? fitting this year sequence? md, whose parents are Nathaniel Smith and Lucy {Lynde} Smith? Bottom line, I'd like to find the children, etc.. If you care to assist, and need more information, please ask... Kindest regards, Al Dempster, B.A., M.Ed. -- Al ...: Genealogist...
