Although the migration pattern you list is identical to my own family I don't have any matching names in my extensive database. Virtually identical places and dates though. Following the opening of the Northwest Territory through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and then west to California, Oregon and Alaska with the gold rush and then back home to Illinois and Iowa. Unfortunatley for us getting a match, my Thompson originated in Delaware somewhere prior to the 1770's and then emmigrated west via Pennsylvania and central Ohio. Author: swiftercurrents Surnames: Thompson, Barrum, Barnham, Nye, Hon Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17150.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I have been trying to connect my Thompson's from Vermont. Amos or Daniel (depending on which article you read) was born abt 1788, Vermont, and married a Kali Barrum (Calista Barnum ?). They had two sons, Amos Fiske born 1824 Ohio and Gilbert born 1828 Illinois. It seems the family went to Indiana and then must have gone to Illinois. After that Amos Fiske seems to have gone to Oregon then California and Back to Oregon. Amos Fiske then married Elizabeth Catharine (Nye) Hon. During that time, Amos/Daniel went to Iowa and was in the same town that Elizabeth Catherine (Nye) Hon was in, at the same time, but I can't find Amos Fiske there. Elizabeth was married to Samuel Hon at that time and he died just before Elizabeth came to Oregon. During this time I have lost Gilbert, but I think he died in Walla Walla Co, Washington. That is where I find a Daniel Thompson from Vermont that died in 1870. I hope this isn't too confusing. Caroline Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Also, one email notice can contain 1 to 20 individual notices. It takes a lot of time to shift through all of them to see if there is any useful information for me. In order to speed the process, I, and I'm sure many other researchers, check the subject line for clues. When I see one that may fit my family, I go to the board and read the notice. However, there are a lot of generic subject's and this is where the time consuming work really is. For example, "Thompson" or "Thompson family" on a Thompson Board. The surname is obvious or you wouldn't have listed it on the Thompson surname board. Or just the name "John Thompson". I'm sure you will agree that there are a lot of Thompson's and a lot of John's out there. I normally don't open these inquiries right away because of the time constraints. So, I'm sending along a little 'hint' on how to better your chances of getting everyone on the list to consider your inquiry and increasing your chance of getting the information you need. Be specific on the Subject Line, i.e. name, date, place. If you dont' have all that, put in what info you have so that your notice stands out from the rest. You might be more successful in your quest for information. In your case, might I suggest a subject line that looks like this: "Seeking info on the family of George Thompson b abt 1859, Hoxton, London, England" or "George Thompson b abt 1859, Hoxton, London, England". I hope this helps you get more people looking at your inquiries. Good Luck in your search. God Bless! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [THOMPSON] Joseph Thompson
    2. Bob Thompson
    3. You said "and the other Joseph Thompson eventually left VA and moved to KY or TN (can't remember which now)." I believe that this Joseph is my ancestor who arrived in Kentucky, Fayette County at the time, in 1787-1789. Family tradition and information in the 1850 census records indicate that at least some of his children, if not all, were born in Virginia. I have heard that they came from Albermarle County and that they came from Culpepper County. Actually it is more likely that they were from Augusta, at least in my mind. There are strong indications that Joseph and Mary lived in Augusta County Virginia before moving to Kentucky. The strongest indication is that there were no Joseph Thompsons listed in the tax records for Culpeper or Albermarle Counties in 1787. There were, however three Josephs listed in Augusta County. Further, there are land records that pertain to a Joseph Thompson who sold land in 1788 which is about the time that our Joseph made the move to Kentucky. According to the Augusta County Virginia land records, Joseph Thompson purchased 155 acres of land from Windle and Elizabeth Bright on 16 October 1773.20 The land was located in Beverly Manor and the transaction was recorded in Augusta County Deed Book 19, pages 507 to 510. This purchase occurred at about the time Joseph was first married and starting to raise a family. Joseph Thompson and his wife Mary sold 155 acres of land in Beverly Manor on the South River to Joseph Wapler on 15 July 1788. This transaction is recorded in Deed Book 26 on page 125.20 The property is located in the southwest region of Beverly Manor about 7 or 8 miles from the Tinkling Springs area. A list of delinquent taxpayers for Augusta County noted Joseph Thompson and had a notation that he had moved to Kentucky. I am assuming that there are no DNA test results on the Thompson DNA site that include the Joseph Thompson who disappeared from Augusta Co Virginia. I have good documentation back to the Joseph who arrived in Fayette County which later became Jessamine County. Let me ask what would be the benefit of doing the DNA test and which one should I sign up for? Bob Thompson Prior Lake, MN or Winter Haven, FL
