HENRY THOMSON. 200 acres land; in Craven Co., south side Broad River, waters of Kings Creek; bd'd John STEEL, Jane WILSON, Jno. BROWN, Thomas CROSSON; sur. 25 Jan. 1773." Migrated next to Newberry County, South Carolina. ~ On the same ship were three (3) other surname THOMSON passengers petitioning for land in the council chamber that same day: Wm. THOMSON, Robert THOMSON, and John THOMSON. ~ It is likewise noted that all four [4] "...the undermentioned persons are not able to pay for their Warrants...." Wm. THOMSON was awarded 100 acres land January 6, 1773, on branch of King's Creek, south side Broad River, in Craven County; bounded by John STEEL, Jane WILSON, Jared SMITH; surveyed 25 Jan 1773; this Wm. THOMSON appears to have later migrated to Newberry County, South Carolina. See SCDAH Plat Fold 1872: January 3, 1773. Robert THOMSON was awarded 100 acres land January 6, 1773, on 'Bever' [Beaver] Dam Branch, north side 'Tiger' [Tyger] River, in Craven County; bounded by vacant land; surveyed 2 September 1773; this Robert THOMSON appears to have migrated to the Union/Spartanburg County, areas in South Carolina. See SCDAH Plat Book 20, p. 235. John THOMSON was awarded 100 acres land January 6, 1773, on waters of Cane Creek, north side of Tyger River, in Craven Couonty; bounded by Agnes ELLIOTT; surveyed 2 Sept 1773; this John THOMSON appears to have migrated to the Union/Spartanburg County, areas, in South Carolina. SCDAH online. ~ These four (4) men [amoung many other passengers on this same ship petitioning for land grants on this same date] emigrated in groups which may have been associated with Rev. Martin's early Presbyterian migration to the Province of South Carolina, America in the early 1770's; there were some 1,000 Scotch, Irish, Scotch/Irish emigrating during this period associated with these group(s). We are interested in learning more about these four (4) men. It IS NOT KNOWN if there were any relationships between any of the four (4) men surname THOMSON on the Brigantine, "Free Mason", and WE ARE NOT implying any relationship, either, at this time. Interested in corresponding with any families researching these families..... Regards, Milisia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He married Susan Caroline Varner in St. Clair, IL in 1867 and they had 6 children. I have their Marriage Cert. Your posting says you have a photo of Robt. W. Any chance I could get a copy? This is MOST exciting! The 1880 census shows his father came from England and his mother from New York. Would love to find out more info on them -- and also on Robt. W's birth which was around 1844. I'm researching my husband's family and can only get back to his g-grandfather, Robert, b. Ontario Canada circa 1844, migrated to Illinois and married Susan Caroline Varner in 1867. Robert's father came from England and his wife was from NY, per 1880 Census of Pope, Fayette, IL. Anyone in your family records who tie into this line of Thompsons?
