My gg grandfather, Enoch Thompson was born in SC abt 1808. He was very young when his family moved to Adams Co. IL. The family had migrated to SC from VA. Enoch is such an unusual name, I always notice it. Geraldine Sent from my iPad

However, to the best of my knowledge, none of my Thompsons had it. Be aware, though, that I'm not sure I ever really knew any them!! My Paternal Great Grandmother, Mary Jane "Molly" Harris was m. to Frank David Thompson....or David Frank Thompson, depending on where you see his name written. The only Thompsons I ever really knew were my Paternal Grandmother, Margret Ann (that's how she spelled it!), her sister, Minnie Ethel, & their younger brother, Harry Jordon Enoch Thompson. But none of that makes any sense. Different line. My Thompson line carried a disease called " Huntington's Disease". Have you ever had that disease in your line? It is genetic and inherited. good luck on your search. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However, I only know of Enoch Thompson married to Mary "Polly" Linn, and their son, Jacob William Thompson and his descendants. Jacob had siblings, but I have no idea of their names or descendants. Jacob was born in Ohio, and he came to Ohio, then to Indiana from Pennsylvania. It was Enoch that was b. in New Jersey. Mary "Polly" Linn was b. in PA., so I doubt that Enoch was in NJ very long. I did however find in someone else's family tree that they had put William F. Thompson, born 1810, as Seaborn's father; I did not see any sources stating where they got the information from. Author: PAULLINBABY Surnames: THOMPSON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17891.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have a suggestion: look at the various THOMPSONs who lived in w NJ in the Colonial period...there was a very large THOMPSON family in Salem Co, then part of Salem was split off to form Cumberland County NJ. Look for first names of your family in other THOMPSON families b abt the same time or 1 generation earlier. My THOMPSONs lived there and many left to homestead OH abt this time, when a major treaty w Indians was signed. The "road" west had several routes: through KY, or through PA. WVA was created out of part of what was formerly VA and part of it became se OH. My group went to Greene Co OH, others went to Dayton. They were not German. Many THOMPSONs belonged to the Presbyterian Church before they went west, some were Baptists or Quakers (maybe to secure land by agreement with a church affiliation) and they are likely Scottish...some lived in Ireland for a time before moving on to America. You are welcome to look at the THOMPSONs in my tree, but I only traced them going backward from this time frame...Look in my tree for Mary b abt 1740 NJ. Author: ericthered75040 Surnames: Thompson, Roach, Miller, Farris Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/19784/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I am looking for information on George Bert Thompson. I am descendant from him by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Thompson (1890-1975) who married James Marcus Roach (1881-1958). Later on, Mary married Grover Cleveland Farris (1890-1961), but they had no children. My great aunt Cona Jean told me that her grandmother's father is George Bert Thompson, but that she wasn't sure on the name of his wife. In my searches, I have found that George married Edna Miller (b. 1847) on 17 Nov 1897. I know this is correct because the license lists George as being in Warm Springs, Arkansas and that is where all of his children are born. Also the 1900 census lists the following: George B Thompson Edney Thompson (I assume this is Edna) Mary Thompson Sarah Thompson Ellen Thompson I know that the Mary Elizabeth I'm related to has sisters Sarah Francis and Clara. The 1910 census lists George, Edna, and "Cara" (who I am assuming is Clara). By all accounts, Edna Miller seems to be the mother of at least some of the girls... though I'm not sure. Mary Elizabeth Thompson was born in 1890, which is 7 years prior to George marrying Edna. I did some more research and found another record of "Bert Thompson" marrying a "Celia A Farris" in 1888, Warm Springs, Arkansas. I don't know if this woman was the mother of Mary or not, but it makes sense. I know that George is buried in Warm Springs at the Macedonia Cemetery, and that there are two other Thompsons there as well: James Madison and Martha. The Martha buried here was born in 1844 and is listed as the wife of "J A Thompson". I took a wild guess that Martha could be George's mother, since she would have been the right age in 1864 to have a son. I typed her in and J A Thompson as the father, and I got a census record from 1880 which listed "John A Thompson" and "Martha Thompson" living in Panther Creek, Kentucky. I clicked this, and one of the children is named Bert, born about 1864. I know that Bert was born in Kentucky, but I don't know where. Can anyone confirm this? I would like to know this information, and I would like to know the ancestry of George Bert Thompson as well. Does anyone know anything more on Bert or his wives?
