Author: nbcollett Surnames: Thompson, Caudill, Earls Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17190/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hoping someone is out there that has info on this family. I am not having much luck finding anything, except a few obits. I started out researching John Walter Caudill b: May 25 1885 d: Nov 29 1955 in Tazewell, VA. This is my great grandfather. He is the father of my grandmother, Flora Nannie Lou Caudill. He has a brother named James (Adolphus I think) Caudill. Their parents are John Caudill and Lou? Unknown. I cannot figure out who this John and Lou are and it has stunted my family tree growth because of it. John's brother, James, was married to Hester Ann Thompson, d/o Samuel Floyd Thompson b: Jan 18 1894 d: unknown and Florence Octavia Earls b: Aug 1897 VA d: Jun 13 1982 Bluefield, VA. >From obits and a few census records, I have Samuel and Florence's children as: Hester Ann James Franklin Mary Helen Margie Marie Lucy Lola Lillian Judy Aileen Liddie Virginia "Jennie" Sue Nancy Nora Betty Flora Nannie Lou Caudill married Leck Mason Thompson. My father is a Thompson and it's my maiden name. I am betting that Leck Mason's family is somehow connected to this Hester and Samuel line. Does ANYONE have ANYTHING on this family??? 3. Looking for parents/siblings of William Holloway Thompson, born at Alpine, Talladega Co. AL in July 1840 -- died at Palestine, Anderson Co. TX in 1914. Married Nancy Jane Roberts (1841 SC - 1909 TX) in Talladega Co. in 1866. Children of this couple were: Jesse E. (called "Pink"), c. 1867 John W., c. 1870 James Monroe, c. 1872 Robert Lee, c. 1873 Emma Louisa, c. 1876 Elijah Washington, c. 1880 Mary Frances (called "Fannie"), 17 May 1883 - 18 December 1916 Descendants of several of the older children came to Texas for a family reunion in the mid-1980s, and I am hoping to locate them. William, Nancy Jane, and at least their two youngest children came to Texas between the 1900 census (at which time they were living in Fayette Co. AL) and 1902, Nancy died at Exray, Erath Co. TX in 1909 -- William married Arethusa (or Althusa) Courtney Forrester in Anderson Co. TX in 1912. . Census records show William's parents as having been born in South Carolina. In 1860 he was living with and working for a couple named Beckham or Beckman in Talladega Co. -- Mrs. Beckham/Beckman was Sarah Thompson, born SC -- I think she may have been William's older sister. I would appreciate any help on locating William's parents and siblings. Thank you, Nancy Harwood

Author: steve_carson Surnames: Thompson Newcome Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17184/mb.ashx Message Board Post: We have set up a research web site for the family of John Theophilus Thompson (ca 1755 - 1828), focusing on their time in Bedford County Tennessee beginning in the early 1800s. The family group is: 1. Theophilus Thompson was born between 1750 and 1760 in ,Frederick, Maryland. He died on April 10, 1826 in Shelbyville, Bedford, Tennessee. He was married to Mary Newcome about 1778. Mary Newcome was born between 1750 and 1760. She died after 1792. Theophilus Thompson and Mary Newcome had the following children: 2 i. Joseph Thompson (born on March 30, 1782). 3 ii. Nancy Thompson (born about 1784). 4 iii. Samuel Thompson (born in 1784). 5 iv. Richard Thompson (born about 1788). 6 v. Theophilus Thompson was born about 1790 in , Orange, North Carolina. He died about 1820 in , Orange, North Carolina. 7 vi. Newcomb Thompson (born on December 27, 1792). The above data comes from the book "John Theophilus Thompson, Some Ancestors and Descendants in Frederick County, Maryland, Orange County, North Carolina and Bedford County, Tennessee". One of the authors of that book is assisting in this research. The particular focus of this research is identifying the family of Richard Thompson, although we will be collecting and analyzing records on the entire family in the process of doing this. The web site will collect digital images of the applicable records and other data we collect, transcriptions and abstracts of records, and analysis. I am using my company's SharePoint portal for this work - so the site will have document libraries (that participants can download from and upload to), wikis (where participants can contribute to an edit the on-line text), discussion lists, and other features common to SharePoint sites. The site is not public and requires a username and password to access. This is because of the damage that someone with ill intent could do using the site (for example, distributing illicit material through it). Anyone interested in this research is welcome to participate. Please e-mail me directly ( carson@gscassociates.com ) and request access and I will give you the web address and assign you a username and password. Author: Judith6355 Surnames: Thompson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/17180/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for information on John Thompson who was the father of Samuel Joseph Thompson (1820) and, probably, Moses F. Thompson (1823). I believe both sons were born in what is now West Virginia. They apparently migrated down the Ohio to Hanover, IN, then back upstream to Cincinnati where John is said to have died. The Thompsons were Scotch-Irish from Northern Ireland. I do not know if John was born in Ireland or in the U. S. Because Samuel is usually listed in the census as born in Ohio, but once as born in VA, and since some of his children say their father was born in Ohio and some in WV, my theory is that he was born in Ohio County Virginia. In the 1820 census there was a John Thompson and wife (age 26 ) and no children (Samuel could have been born later in the year) as well as lots of other Thompsons. 1. [THOMPSON] THOMPSON Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Isaac THOMPSON which was taken at the W. E. Bain Studio which I believe was in Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Mr. THOMPSON appearing to be in his 80's at the time the photograph was taken. In addition to his name, someone has written "born Nov 18th 1796" and "A Merry Xmas and Happy New Year" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Isaac and his family: Isaac THOMPSON b. 18 Nov 1796 in Pittston, PA the son of James THOMPSON (b. 4 Jan 1759 in Ireland) and Susannah Jane SKELTON (b. 17 Aug 1750 in Buckingham, PA). Isaac married Mariah "Maria" WILCOX (b. Beekman, NY) on 18 Jun 1818. Isaac died 29 Sept 1900 in Lee, IL.
