    1. [THOMPSON] Death of Clifford Frank Thompson
    2. It is with sadness and a sense of loss that I am posting the obituary of my distant Thompson cousin, Clifford Frank Thompson. Cliff and I met, as do many cousins, through this Thompson Mailing List. He is the one who provided THE key to the Thompson side of my family. All I knew was that my gg grandfather was Enoch Thompson, born in SC abt 1806. Cliff told me who these Thompsons were, and opened a whole new world of relatives for me! Cliff's kindness and generosity epitomized what these genealogical sharing lists and sites are all about. Cliff and I were 4th cousins. His gg grandfather, Elijah Thompson born 1804 in Pendleton District, SC, and my gg grandfather, Enoch Thompson born 1806 in Pendleton District, SC were brothers. They had eleven other siblings. Their parents were William Thompson and Emily "Milly" Hammitt. The family moved to Adams County, IL in about 1815. Anyone related to these Thompsons is welcome to contact me. Geraldine in SC gfjay@aol.com Clifford Thompson Clifford Frank Thompson, 80, of Cary, N.C., and previously a 25-year resident of Kent Island, MD died Jan. 7 after a courageous four-year fight with cancer in Cary, NC. Mr. Thompson was born June 29, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Clifford F. B. and Esther Bruhl Thompson. He received an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Maryland and was inducted into Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society. He also earned his Professional Engineering designation. He retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center in White Oak after 35 years of service. He served in the Navy during World War II. Since moving to North Carolina, Mr. Thompson was active in church and Sunday school. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by one brother, Morton C. Thompson. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Betty Lee Thompson; three sons, Brian K. Thompson of Cary, Sean M. Thompson of Grapevine, Texas and Kevin L. Thompson of Stuart, Fla; one daughter, Gael E. Bittenbender of Sugar Land, Texas; one brother, Henry J. Thompson; one sister, Ella F. Thompson; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Cary. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to UNC Lineberger Cancer Center, School of Medicine CB 7295, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC 27599. Author: snakehere Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.thompson/7774.182.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I know almost nothing about my Thompson Family and hope that someone might have any type of clue to help me. I have been trying for several years now, without success to find who my gggrandfather was and about his family and his wife's family. What I know for sure: My ggrandmother's name was Eliza Jane Thompson, born in Tennessee in either Nov. 1858 or Dec. 1858. I know her maiden name was Thompson and her mother's name was Martha or she was called "Martha". In the 1860 census for Bradley County, Tn. Eliza is shown with Richard -age 30 born Tn. and Martha M. age 38 born Tn. and two sisters; Maree Caroline born 1855 and Minerva/Manerva born 1860. In the 1870 census for Rhea County, Tn. I find Eliza Jane with Martha -this time shown as age 30 and with the two sisters (all birthyears match those of the 1860 census for the girls). There is no longer a Richard. Some family members have said that the parents names were William and Martha Jackson. I have been unable to prove such and I don't find where they have shown any evidence to support these names. I know that Richard or whatever his name, fought in the Civil War. I remember seeing his picture , in uniform, hanging in my grandmother's home. The picture has long been gone and I do not know if the uniform was Union or Confederate. Some family have said he was in the Mounted Cavs but I have not seen evidence for this either. I have heard he was killed at home by bushwhackers either during the war or after but prior to the 1870 census. I think Martha moved with the three girls to Rhea county to be near maybe her family or his after he died but since I do not know either his or her family's names I am unable to match them with anyone in Rhea County. I think Martha might have remarried after 1870 as I cannot find her again after the 1870 census and I didn't find her on the census with Eliza Jane and her family nor with Maree C. and her family and I have no idea what happened to Minerva. I have been unable to find a "fit" for Richard Thompson either prior to 1860 nor after 1860. I believe that his first name might not have been Richard. I believe Maree Caroline married Colonel Pleming in Rhoane County, Tn. and that she died perhaps in Knox County or someplace close after 1880 but do not know where she is buried. My greatgrandmother Eliza Jane Thompson married John Wesley Perry in Meigs County, Tn. on 12-21-1878. In the early 1900's they all went to Oklahoma except for one daughter , Minnie Belle Perry who married Benjamin Cecil and they stayed in and around Bradley County, Tn. (Decatur and Athens) all Minnie's life. I can't even find out any info. about the Cecils of Tennessee. If anyone knows anything about any of these people or has any suggestions as to how I can back track in any way to find out anything about them please help me. 1. [THOMPSON] THOMPSON family - Co Leitrim
    2. I Thompson
    3. Dear list, I wonder if you could assist me? I am interested in the history of my family and it seems that one of them, my gt gt gt grandfather was born in Co Leitrim (according to the 1911 census of Dublin). He was James (Kempson) Thompson, a compositor, who was born ca 1836-37 (ages from 2 marriages and the 1911 census agree on this), son of James Thompson, farmer (1st 1860 marriage in Limerick) and/or shopkeeper (2nd 1866 marriage also in Limerick). I note with interest the free data from Griffith's Valuation of Ireland for Leitrim showing a James Thompson in Cornacloy township, Cloonclare parish (1856/7). Also, an entry from "The Irish Jurist" for 1851 mentioning a James and Anne Thompson, complainants in a case of indecency against a member of the church, no less, living in Clooncumber, Cloone. James' children (by 3 different marriages!) were: (by Ellen Price) Susan Jane b1860 LimerickEllen Catherine b 1863 Limerick (by Harriett Gould)James George b1867 DublinWilliam Schomberg b 1869 DublinHarriet Sparling b1876 Dublin (married in 1911 Mr Harding in Leeds, UK)(by Mary Ellen Higgins) Albert Schomberg b ca 1885 Belfast (died young)William Kempson b 1888 Liverpool England James was quite a traveller - Leitrim, Limerick, Dublin, Liverpool, Leeds (1891 census) then back to Dublin for the 1911 census! I have noted from my initial web surfs that there seems to be a collection of Thompsons in Rosskey (Rooskey)-Thompson township, Mohill barony, as well as the snippets above. Any help greatly appreciated. Please reply off-list as well as on-list. Cedar township, Aug. 20, 1891) was a native of Indiana County, Pa., the son of George C. and Elizabeth (Davis) Thompson. May 5, 1853, he married Evaline George and engaged in farming. Dec. 31, 1866, he moved to Aledo, Mercer County, Ill., where he remained three years. In November, 1869, in two prairie schooners, he and his family made the trip to Redfield, Iowa, crossing the Mississippi at New Boston, Ill. In the fall of 1870 they located on a homestead of 80 acres on the N1/2 SE1/4 Sec. 18, Cedar township. He improved this farm with good buildings and a new house in 1890 and occupied it until the time of his decease in 1891. In 1894 this farm was sold and the family moved into Fonda. John A., August 26, 1896, married Dora Sayre, has one child and is engaged in the hardware business at Varina. 7. Mary, a dressmaker, in 1887 married Leslie Dean and their family consisted of one child, Daphne; in 1899 she married Eugene Herrington and now lives at Sioux City. George H.
